AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 AM PDT THURSDAY An Air Quality Alert has been issued for Benton, Columbia, Franklin, Kittitas, Klickitat, Walla Walla and Yakima Counties until further notice due to expected wildfire smoke from regional fires. Expect some clearing out and intermittent good air quality but with significant fires on the landscape conditions can worsen quickly to unhealthy air. Be sure to check air monitors in your area before outdoor activities.

High winds Saturday pushed the Three Queens Fire to 1,200 acres, officials with the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest said in a Sunday update. Officials said fire crews were working to protect cabins in the Cooper Lake area and the Thorp Mountain Outlook. A spot fire was reported on the east side of Lake Kachess, and Level 3 (go now) evacuations were ordered in the cabins and camping areas around Cooper Lake and Cooper River Road, as well as south to the French Cabin Creek road system.

Ellensburg High School has a new football head coach: Ryker Ely. Ely was announced in his new position on July 27 following an extensive interview process that required a seven-member hiring team, according to the Ellensburg High athletics department. The committee was searching for a coach who would make a positive impact on student-athletes “both as competitors and as young people.”

Just one person has applied to fill the vacant city council position in Cle Elum.

The Cle Elum City Council will meet next week to interview Bryce Wallace for Position 4 on the council. Wallace has lived in Cle Elum since 1996.

The Master Gardener Diagnostic Clinic takes place today at 11:30 a.m. at The Armory.
