The Ellensburg Public Library’s Summer Reading Program kicked off this week with a wide range of activities for kids and adults under the theme “Unearth a Story.” On Wednesday, July 22, kids will get to take shovels to a mountain of dirt to hunt for dinosaurs. While most of the children’s programming is on Wednesday mornings, there are two events targeted to working parents: A Family Dino Disco party is 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 29 at Hal Holmes, when the community center will show off its new disco ball; and The Brian White Band, which combines musical theater, imaginative storytelling, comedy and rock-n-roll. That will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6 at North Alder Park.
The westbound off-ramp of Interstate 82 at Exit 31 to N. First Street in Yakima will be closed from today. The closure is needed so a work crew can seal the recently paved bridge deck, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
The Kittitas County Historical Museum and the Kittitas Reclamation District will host “A Century of Water: Celebrating 100 Years of the Kittitas Division” on Saturday, July 11 at the museum.The community event marks the 100th anniversary of the July 11, 1926, ceremony celebrating the start of construction on the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation’s Kittitas Division.
Looking at what's happening around town tomorrow, the Master Gardeners host their Plant Diagnostic Clinic at 11:30 a.m. at The Armory, so bring your sick plants and your questions. And it's Trivia Tuesday at Rock and Reef Brewing starting at 6 p.m. Looking ahead to the holiday, the City of Ellensburg and Kittitas County host a free America 250 Community Picnic Saturday, July 4th, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Unity Park, with live music, yard games, and family fun. Bring a blanket and a picnic.
WEATHER
The forecasted high tomorrow in Ellensburg is 71 degrees with a low of 48 degrees. Expect partly cloudy skies and another breezy day, with northwest winds around 27 miles an hour. The sunset is at about 9:01p.m., and there's almost no chance of rain. Looking ahead, it warms up and calms down through the week, with sunshine and low 80s by the Fourth.
WHAT'S FOR LUNCH AT THE FISH OPEN TABLE?
The Fish Open Table Lunch is a Ground Beef Burrito Bowl. The senior lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ellensburg Open Table at 204 North Main Street, and noon to 1 p.m. at the Cle Elum Seventh Day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg Open Table.
