CWU opera continues this weekend

CWU’s production of the classic opera, Die Fledermaus, continues with a performance at 7 p.m., tonight in McConnell Auditorium. The opera will be performed in English and include a host of modern touches. The opera will be performed at 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m., Sunday. Tickets are $20 for general admission.


Ellensburg City Council meets Monday

The Ellensburg City Council meets at 7 p.m., Monday, in the City Hall Council Chambers. The agenda includes a presentation of the Ellensburg Police Department 2024 Community Survey results, and a Poetry Month reading and update from Poet Laureate Marie Marchand.


Campus-Community dialog event on Saturday

A World Café: Campus and Community Dialogue is at 2 p.m., Saturday in Sue Lombard Hall on the CWU campus. The event uses the World Café model with small-group discussions and facilitators. The goal is to connect a diverse group of residents for a meaningful conversation. There will be free refreshments and snacks.

 

Cleanup day at Roslyn Park

There will be a clean-up day at Roslyn’s Runge Field/Pioneer Park from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday. Volunteers are to meet at the tennis courts and break a rake and a wheelbarrow.

 

Cops and Bobbers on Saturday

The annual Cops and Bobbers fishing event in honor of Kittitas County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Thompson is on Saturday at the Ryan Thompson Memorial Pond off Naneum Road. It runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Information on how to sign up is on the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Facebook page.

 

New show opens at Punch

The group exhibition of haiku comics “A Whispering Kettle” opens at the Punch Gallery at noon, Saturday. Alternative band Crone performs at 2 p.m. This is a free, all-ages event.

 

Sidewalk Prophets perform Saturday

The Sidewalk Prophets perform at 7 p.m., Saturday at the Morgan Performing Arts Center. The Dove-award-winning band is a mainstay on Christian radio stations. Tickets are $20 for general admission.

 

Jazz band visits CWU on Monday

The North Texas One O’Clock Lab Band led by Alan Baylock will be joined by the CWU Jazz Band 1 in a performance at the McIntyre Music Building Concert Hall at 7 p.m., Monday. The One O'Clock Lab Band is a multi-Grammy Award-nominated group and has been regarded as one of the best college jazz ensembles in the country for decades. The concert is free.

 

SPORTS

Cle Elum-Roslyn Athlete honored

Cle Elum-Roslyn High School baseball player Max Dearing was one of this week’s WIAA Athlete of the Week recipients. The Warrior baseball team is 8-2 for the season and host county-rival Kittitas in a doubleheader on Saturday with the first game at 11 a.m.


LUNCH                                                        

The FISH Open Table Lunch is a Chimichurri beef sandwich, a roll and applesauce. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
