Main Street work starts Monday
Drivers and pedestrians will encounter work on Main Street beginning Monday. The project includes curb, sidewalk and driveway improvements on Main, from Third Avenue to University Way. Once Main Street is complete, crews will do the same work on Wildcat Way, from University Way to 18th Avenue. The Main and University Way project is expected to be completed in early September.
Fall sports get underway
The fall sports season kicks off fall sports parents meeting at 7 p.m., Monday in the Ellensburg High School Commons. Football and cheer are the first sports to start practices at 8 a.m., Wednesday. The remaining fall sports start practices on Aug. 21.
CWU hosts health conference
Central Washington University hosts the 2023 One Health Conference on Wednesday. The event is co-hosted by the state Department of Health and Department of Agriculture and is an opportunity for sharing information and collaborating on human, animal and environmental health issues. In-person registration is closed but there is information on how to participate via Zoom on CWU’s website.

Get a free snow cone
The city of Ellensburg celebrates 811 Day with free snow cones from 2 to 4 p.m., Friday at City Hall. Homeowners and excavators must call 811 before any digging project.
A chance to dance
The Kiwanis Summer Dance-Hawaiian Luau is 6:30 to 8 p.m., Friday at Hal Holmes Community Center. There will be pizza, music, dancing and games at this free, family-friendly event. This is a Kittitas County Special Olympics event and all are invited to attend.
Prepare to bocce
The inaugural Upper Kittitas Count Bocce Tournament is Saturday at South Cle Elum Firemen’s Park. Registration opens at 9:30 a.m. and competition gets underway at 10:30 a.m.
Help to fix stuff
The Rodeo City Repair Café is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday at the IOOF Cemetery Shop on Brick Road. Free assistance is available to troubleshoot and repair small household appliances, lamps, hand and power tools, furniture, bicycles, clothing, fabric and leather items.
Car show Saturday
Kittitas County Fire District 1 hosts its annual car and bike show Saturday at the Thorp Fire Station. Registration starts at 8 a.m., with judging at 11:30 a.m. and awards at 1:30 p.m.
Pint Night honors Ryan Thompson
The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Association is hosting Ryan Thompson Pint Night at Whipsaw Brewing on Saturday. There will be live music by CobraHawk. This is a family-friendly event.
Art market at the Pass
The Snoqualmie Pass Art Market is 11 p.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, at Dru Bru’s Snoqualmie Pass location.
Free school supply giveaway is Wednesday
The Kittitas County Health Network school supply giveaway event is from noon to 4 p.m., Wednesday at the Seedlings Center for Early Learning, 220 E. Helena Avenue.
Food distribution set for Wednesday
The Northwest Harvest Mobile Food Truck will distribute food to families in need from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Wednesday at St. Andrew’s Church. This is a drive-through service and cars will enter near the community garden. No documentation is needed.

LUNCH
The FISH Open Table lunch is ham and Swiss wrap, roasted potato wedges and fruit cocktail. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
