Water supply to fall short
The Yakima Basin’s water supply will not fully meet irrigation demands this season, according to the Bureau of Reclamation. While senior water rights holders will receive their full entitlements, junior water rights holders will receive 51 percent. Storage in the Yakima basin reservoirs on Aug. 1 was 46 percent full, and 65 percent of average. Precipitation for July was 34 percent of average and for October-July was 84 percent.
Work slated for Unity Park
With the Bull back in the park, work continues at Unity Park this coming week. City officials said 180 cubic yards of concrete, or 18 dump truck loads, will be placed in the park next week. Unity Park’s grand opening is set for October, but the park is supposed to be usable for the Hoedown in the Downtown at the end of August.
“Finding Nemo” is the Friday movie in park
“Finding Nemo,” will be shown at Veteran’s Memorial Park at about 9 p.m., Friday. The movie, presented by Ellensburg Parks and Recreation, is free. People are encouraged to bring chairs and snacks. Movies are shown every Friday through Aug. 16.
Car and bike show on Saturday
The annual Kittitas County Fire District No. 1 Car and Bike Show is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, at the Kittitas County Fire District No. 1 station on Thorp Highway. There will be food and music.
4-H events this weekend
With the Kittitas County Fair approaching, 4-H events are underway. The shooting sports for air rifle and air pistol is Saturday in Umtanum Hall. The 4-H Dog Agility Fair is Sunday at the fairgrounds. The Junior Horse Fair starts on Thursday and runs through next weekend.
After-hours at Heritage Distilling
The Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce August after-hours event is from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, at Heritage Distilling in Roslyn. The event is open to the public, and all retail businesses are invited to join.
Help with financial aid forms
Central Washington University is offering a workshop to assist high school juniors and seniors in filling out the federal financial aid forms from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday at Samuelson Hall Room 170. A free dinner is included.
SPORTS
Registration is open for fall adult volleyball
Registration is open for the fall adult volleyball league, offered by Parks and Recreation. The league offers recreation and competitive divisions. Teams may play with any combination of female or male players; there is no minimum for either gender. Registration deadline is Sept. 6. Information is available on the Parks and Recreation page of the city’s website.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is pineapple chicken, mixed vegetables and Mandarin oranges. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
