Planning Commission member sought
Ellensburg is accepting applications for the city’s Planning Commission. The Planning Commission reviews and makes recommendations to the City Council about the comprehensive land use plan and the zoning ordinance. It also holds hearings and makes decisions on a variety of land-use applications. Information is available on the city’s website.
‘Shrek’ takes to the stage this week
The Ellensburg High School Winter Musical production of ‘Shrek’ is at 7 tonight, 2 and 7 p.m., Saturday, and March 1 and 2. Tickets are $15 for general admission.
Help plan for the city of Kittitas parks
A city of Kittitas Parks and Open Space Community Workshop is at 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday at City Hall. The purpose is to get public input on the city’s Parks, Recreation and Open Space Plan. A light lunch will be provided.
‘Rapunzel’ on stage Saturday
“Rapunzel’ will be performed at 3 and 5:30 p.m., Saturday, at Hal Holmes Community Center. The Missoula Children’s Theatre production features children in grades K-12.
Jazz is highlighted on Saturday
Jazz takes center stage Saturday with the CWU Winter Quarter Afternoon of Jazz and Evening of Jazz concerts at the McIntyre Music Building. The afternoon performance is at 4 p.m. and the evening is at 7 p.m. One $15 general admission ticket gains entry to both performances, which feature different bands.
Chamber music performance on Sunday
CWU music professors Yerim Kim, Christine Harada and Nathaniel Pierce will present an evening of chamber music by American composers Frank Stemper, Jessie Montgomery and Charles Ives at 7 p.m., Sunday, in the McIntyre Music Building. The concert is free.
Cultural Conversations on Tuesday
CWU Korean Studies Professor Yoon Kim will be featured in the Cultural Conversations storytelling event at 5 p.m., Tuesday, at the Hal Holmes Community. Kim leads the Korean Culture Studies Center at CWU, and she has also been involved with Continuing Education and Asian Studies.

Bulldogs and Warriors girls’ teams advance to state
Fans can watch a Cle Elum-Roslyn and Ellensburg girls’ basketball teams Regional State Playoff doubleheader at Ellensburg High School tonight. Cle Elum-Roslyn is the No. 11 seeded team in the state 2B tournament and the Warriors face No. 14 Forks at 6 p.m. in a loser-out game. Ellensburg is the No. 1 in the state 2A tournament and the Bulldogs play No. 8 Columbia River at 8 p.m. Regardless of the outcome, both teams advance to play in the Yakima SunDome, starting on Feb. 28.
Rodeo City Roller Derby in action Saturday
Rodeo City Roller Derby faces Dockyard Roller Derby’s Undertow Team in the Thaw Brawl at 5 p.m., Saturday at Ellensburg High School. Tickets are $5 in advance, available on the team’s website, and $10 at the door.
Help Pack the Pantry at the Wildcats game
One nonperishable food item gets a person in for free to the CWU women’s basketball team's game against Northwest Nazarene at 1:15 p.m., Saturday at Nicholson Pavilion. The Wildcats are partnering with Wildcat Pantry for this game.

The FISH Open Table Lunch is French dip, mixed vegetables and applesauce. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
