City facilities serve as warming center
With low temperatures in the forecast, the Ellensburg Public Library and Hal Holmes Community Center will open early at 8 a.m., today and Monday through Friday of next week to serve as morning warming centers.
Point-in-time counts approach
The annual Point-in-Time Count of the homeless population is Jan. 30. Training for those interested in assisting is from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday and 11 to noon on Jan. 28. Contact HopeSource at 509-925-1448 for registration information.
Bullfrog Flats development public hearing on Jan. 30
A public hearing for the Bullfrog Flats Development Plan will be at 6 p.m., Jan. 30, at Cle Elum City Hall. The Bullfrog Flats Development Project is a phased, mixed-use development located in the western part of Cle Elum, between Bullfrog Road and SR 903. The application includes the first three phases of the project. These phases are part of an overall project proposed to be developed over an approximately 10-year period and include 1,334 single-family and multifamily housing units, 950,000 square of business park uses, and open space including parks, trails and recreational facilities. The hearing is before the city’s Hearing Examiner.
Family Storytelling program on Jan. 30
Hal Holmes Community Center hosts Family Storytelling: The Importance of Story to Family Legacy at 6:30 p.m., Jan. 30. The event aims to help people learn how to incorporate storytelling in preserving family history. It is free and open to the public.

CWU hoops take to the road
The Central Washington University basketball teams are on the road this weekend. The Wildcats visit Western Oregon on Saturday with the women’s tipoff at 2 p.m. and the men's at 4:15 p.m.

High school basketball is on tap this weekend
In high school basketball this weekend, Ellensburg hosts Prosser tonight with the girls’ game at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m. On Saturday the Bulldogs travel to Grandview with the girls at 3:30 p.m. and the boys at 5 p.m. Kittitas travels to play Goldendale tonight with the girls at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m. The Cle Elum-Roslyn boys host La Salle at 7 p.m., tonight. There is no girls’ game. On Saturday, the Warriors travel to White Swan with the girls at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m.

Ropeless Rodeo climbing at CWU
The annual Ropeless Rodeo Bouldering Competition is held all day on Saturday at the CWU Recreation Center. The event features climbers in the Northwest Collegiate Climbing Circuit.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is a biscuits and gravy, peppers, onions, potatoes and fruit salad. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
