NEWS

EPD looking for public input

The Ellensburg Police Department is conducting a survey to develop a better understanding of crime and safety in Ellensburg. No personally identifiable information will be collected and the survey takes 5 to 15 minutes to complete. The survey is available on the city of Ellensburg’s website.


4-H honors Mann family

The Mann family received the 2023 Friends of Kittitas County 4-H Award. The Mann family, Barbara, Julie and Linda were honored for their support of the county’s 4-H program dating back to 1980.


First noon concert of year

The first Kairos and Friends Noon Lunch Concert of the year is at noon, today at Hal Holmes Community Center. The concerts feature CWU music professors, students and community members performing a variety of short musical pieces. The concerts are free and occur the first Friday of every month, October through March.

 

Do the walk Friday

The 2024 art walk season starts tonight with the Ellensburg First Friday Art Walk at downtown galleries and participating businesses. The event gets underway at 5 p.m.


Read the winter away

People can snuggle up with a book this winter and receive a small prize by taking part in the Ellensburg Library’s Winter Bingo 2024. Bingo cards are available at the library. Once the five rows of reading tasks are completed the cards can be returned for a small prize.


Tree recycling season is here

Christmas trees can be discarded for free at Kittitas County transfer stations in Ellensburg and Cle Elum through Jan. 31. The trees must be free of all lights and decorations.


Schedule a blood donation

The Red Cross is holding a blood drive from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 9 at Hal Holmes Community Center. Call 1-800-RED CROSS to schedule an appointment.


SPORTS

Get your team together

The deadline to register for the 3-on-3 adult basket is today. The league is open to men and women over the age of 16. Teams can sign up and individuals can sign up for a free-agent list, which may be used to place players on existing teams or form additional teams. Games will be played on Tuesday and Thursday evenings starting Jan. 16. Registration information is available on the Parks and Recreation page of the city’s website.


Tiny Tots registration open

Registration is now open for Ellensburg Parks and Recreation’s Tiny Tots basketball program. Tiny Tots is children, age 3 to 5. It includes six weekly sessions and focuses on building basketball fundamentals. Class space is limited. Registration information is available and the Parks and Recreation page on the city’s website. The clinics start on Jan. 29.


High hoops tonight

High school basketball action tonight includes the Ellensburg girls and boys hosting Ephrata with the girls at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m.; the Kittitas girls and boys hosting White Swan with the girls’ game at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m.; the Cle Elum-Roslyn girls and boys travel to Goldendale with the girls at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table Lunch is Philly cheesesteak, garlic-lemon broccoli and an apple. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
