Top Story Today: Mural taking shape

Work started this week on the Craig’s Hill water tower mural celebrating 100 years of the Ellensburg Rodeo. The Rural Mural Plural, a Wenatchee-based artist group, was selected to undertake the project. The Ellensburg Rodeo has been celebrating its 100th year with various events, including a speaker series.


Man dies after jumping into Columbia

A 22-year-old Leavenworth man died on July 4 after jumping off a cliff into the Columbia River, west of Crescent Bar, according to the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office.

Liam Gillikin jumped off a cliff, estimated to be 50 to 60 feet above the river, at about 7 p.m. on the 4th. The search started that night, but his body was not found until the next day, submerged in the area where witnesses saw him jump into the water.


EVENTS

Valley Musical Theatre to present “9 to 5”

Valley Musical Theatre’s production of “9 to 5” will premiere at 7 p.m., Friday at Morgan Performing Arts Center. There will be additional performances on July 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22. Tickets are $20 for general admission if purchased in advance, for $25 if bought at the door.


Do the walk

The First Friday Art Walk starts at 5 p.m., Friday in downtown Ellensburg.


Yard sale for Friends of Animals

The Kittitas County Friends of Animals yard sale is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, at the FISH Open Table parking lot on Main Street. The yard sale is an annual fundraiser for the organization.


Tunnel run set for Saturday

The Snoqualmie Tunnel 5K glow run is at 9 a.m., Saturday. This is a 5K walk or run through the historic Snoqualmie Tunnel The tunnel will be partially lit with LED lights and participants will be outfitted with glow gear. An outdoor block party at Dru Bru follows the run. The run is sold-out, but people are welcome to the all-ages block party.


Flag football signup underway

Sign up for the Kittitas County Flag Football League has started. There are coed leagues for grades, kindergarten through 8th. Registration closes on Aug. 15 and play begins on

LUNCH

The FISH Open Table lunch is grilled chicken Caesar salad, garlic toast and fruit salad. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
