The high today will be 91 degrees. Wind out of the NW at 21 MPH. Sunrise this morning at 5:10 a.m. Sunset at 9:01 p.m. The high tomorrow will be a much more reasonable 84 degrees.

Top Story: Kittitas Valley under fire weather watch

Kittitas Valley is under a fire weather watch all day Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. The forecast calls for westerly winds along the east slopes of the Cascades and western Columbia Basin in conjunction with low relative humidity. That combination means any fires that start have the potential to spread rapidly.


Fire in the Yakima Canyon

The Roza Creek Fire near Roza Creek in Kittitas County was at just under 500 acres as of Thursday afternoon. A Type 3 management team was on the scene as of Thursday. The fire is in the Roza Creek area west of the Yakima River and is primarily on state and federal land. Recreation areas and campgrounds in that area have not been closed.


Know the rules before setting off fireworks

Fireworks are prohibited in the cities of Ellensburg, Cle Elum and Roslyn and the Town of South Cle Elum, as well as on all state and federal lands in Kittitas County.

Upper County celebrates the 4th

The Upper County celebrates the 4th of July with its annual Pioneer Days Celebration this weekend. The fun starts at 7 p.m., Friday with Mike’s Tavern Rainier Revival Kickoff Party. Saturday highlights include the Pioneer Days Parade at 10 a.m., Roslyn Riders Play Day at 1 p.m. and the Ronald Heritage Festival at 5 p.m. The celebration concludes on July 4 with a fireworks show at dusk.


Liberty raising funds for bell tower

Liberty is staging a Fourth of July Parade and fundraiser to raise money to purchase a 1870s church bell and build a bell tower next to the Liberty Fire Station. The parade is at 10 a.m. July 4. Bricks with three lines of text are being sold as a fundraiser.


Steel drum orchestra to perform

Steel Magic Northwest, a youth steel drum orchestra from the Edmunds and Kent areas, performs at 6 p.m., Saturday at North Alder Street Park. The performance is free and people are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and a picnic.


Fundraiser supports glass recycling

The Ellensburg Glass Recycling Cooperative is holding a fundraiser at the Wild Horse Wind and Solar Facility on Saturday, After a tour at 10 a.m., participants can create glass mosaics. A $15 donation is suggested. In 2021, the cooperative crushed 28,5 tons of glass bottles into sand. Donations help keep the operation running. RSVP is required. Patriot Night Under the Lights is set for Monday

The annual Patriot Night Under the Lights celebration starts at 5 p.m., Monday at the Kittitas Valley Event Center. The show features performances by Runaway Jane and Colt Ford and concludes with a professional fireworks show at 10 p.m. General admission tickets are $50.


Get ready to run

The Firecracker 5K run is 8:30 a.m., July 4 at Rotary Park. The run is sponsored by the Ellensburg Morning Rotary.

LUNCH

The FISH Open Table lunch is a grilled chicken Caprese sandwich, berries with honey and mint. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.

All FISH programs will be closed on Monday and Tuesday in observance of the Fourth of July holiday.
