CWU grads to speak at ceremonies
Central Washington University will hold two graduation ceremonies Saturday, at 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., and at both the commencement addresses will be delivered by graduating seniors. Elizabeth Jenkins, a computer science major, will speak at the morning ceremony, and Kian Addalkhani, an accounting major, will speak at the afternoon ceremony.
Adequate water supply projected
The Bureau of Reclamation’s June 2023 water supply forecast for the Yakima River basin indicates the water supply will be adequate to meet irrigation demands this season. The June–September total water supply available would provide senior water rights 100% of entitlements and junior water rights 77%.
Notable work on University Way
This spring building permits were obtained from the city of Ellensburg for two notable projects on or near University Way. In April, permits were issued to allow for the demolition of interiors, drywall and fixtures at the former Motel 6 property as part of the conversion to residential housing. The former hotel building is being converted into 76 one-bedroom studio apartments.
In May, permits were granted to proceed with the remodeling of the Pizza Hut building, off University Way on Main Street.

All Kittitas County high schools hold graduation ceremonies this week.
On tap are:
• Thorp High School, 6, tonight, at the high school.
• Easton High School 12 p.m., Saturday, at the high school.
• Cle Elum-Roslyn High School, 2 p.m., Saturday, at Walter Strom Middle School gym.
• Kittitas Secondary School, 7 p.m., Saturday, at the secondary school.
One last performance
Ellensburg High School’s senior recital is 6:30 p.m., tonight, in the high school Little Theatre. Three seniors will perform songs from a wide range of Broadway musicals. All donations received at the event will help students attend the International Thespian Festival this summer.
Go fish
The annual Kiwanis Kids Fishing Derby for ages 14 and under, starts at 9 a.m., Saturday at Fiorito Lake. There will be lots of awesome prizes.
Roslyn market to open
The opening day for the Roslyn Farmers Market is Sunday. The market will open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday through Sept. 10.
LUNCHTIME
Lunch at the Ellensburg School District elementary schools today is grilled cheese and tomato soup, salad bar and fresh fruit. Middle school students can choose Domino’s pizza, beef taco salad, deli sandwiches, salad bar and fresh fruit. Lunch items at the high school include Mandarin chicken, Domino’s Pizza, burger basket, turkey Philly cheese sandwich, salad bar and fresh fruit.
The FISH Open Table lunch today is beef gyro sandwich with oregano-spiced beef, onion, cucumber, lemon cabbage, dill yogurt sauce and feta cheese. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
