Pumpkin Flotilla on Sunday

The annual Pumpkin Flotilla is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Sunday, at Irene Rinehart Riverfront Park. People can bring their carved pumpkins and enjoy an enchanting pumpkin flotilla at the park. The Ellensburg Parks and Recreation Department sponsors the event. Registration is required and there is a registration link on the department’s Facebook page.


Free movie at Unity Park Friday

“Hocus Pocus” will be shown for free at Unity Park at 7:30 p.m., Friday. People are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and snacks.


Ski swap is today and Saturday

The Kittitas County Ski and Snowboard Club’s annual Ski Swap is from 4 to 8 p.m., today and from noon to 5 p.m., Saturday. Today’s event is at the Dru Bru-Cle Elum Taproom, and Saturday’s is at the Dru Bru-Snoqualmie Pass Taproom.


Dispose of medications on Saturday

A medication take-back and paper shred day will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday at the Upper Kittitas County Senior Center. The Cascade Prevention Coalition sponsors the medication takeback, and the cities of Cle Elum and Roslyn sponsor the paper shred.


Human Library on Saturday

Ellensburg Public Library hosts the Human Library from 2 to 6 p.m., Saturday. The Human Library is an opportunity to borrow an open "book" to discuss topics like mental health, disability, ethnicity, gender, ideology, recovery, occupation, and race. It is a collaboration between the CWU EthicsLab, CWU Libraries, and the city of Ellensburg.


Cellists rock out to Queen

The Central Cello Finale Concert at 6 p.m., Saturday in the McIntyre Music Building features 100 cellists rocking to the music of Queen. The concert culminates the two-day Central Cello Celebration, which draws cellists from across the Pacific Northwest. Saturday’s concert features the world premiere of Tom Walworth’s “Crowned Jewels,” a musical medley of famous hits from Queen.


Fall faculty showcase is Sunday

CWU’s Fall Faculty Showcase is 4 p.m., Sunday in the McIntyre Music Building Concert Hall. Performers include Jeff Snedeker (horn), Josh Gianola (percussion), Dan Lipori (bassoon), David McLemore (tuba), Giyong Ahn (piano), Mark Goodenberger (percussion), Josie Wells (clarinet), Ross Salvosa (piano), and John Michel (cello).  Admission is free, but donations are welcomed. All donations go directly to the CWU Department of Music to support various opportunities for students.


City Council meets Monday

The Ellensburg City Council meets at 7 p.m., Monday, in the City Council Chambers. A discussion of a pro or con position on Initiative 2117, which concerns carbon tax credit trading, is on the agenda.


SPORTS

High school football on tap tonight

In Friday high school football, Ellensburg looks to expand its win streak to three games when it hosts Zillah. Kittitas tries to bounce back from a loss to Cle Elum-Roslyn when it hosts Highland. Cle Elum-Roslyn tries to improve to 6-1 for the season when it hosts Goldendale. All games kickoff at 7 p.m. Easton continues its search for its first win on the season against Clallum Bay at 1 p.m., Saturday at Cle Elum-Roslyn High School.

 

Central football travels to Texas

The CWU football faces a critical Lone Star Conference matchup when it plays at Texas A&M-Kingsville at 5 p.m., Saturday. Both teams are 3-1 in conference play, tied for second behind Western Oregon and Angelo State.

 

CWU battles rival Western Washington

CWU's volleyball team welcomes rival Western Washington at 7 p.m., Saturday in Nicholson Pavilion. The Wildcats entered play Thursday in first place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The Vikings were in third place.

 

LUNCH

The FISH Open Table Lunch is French dip, roasted potatoes and Mandarin oranges. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.

The forecasted high today in Ellensburg is 53 degrees. Sunset is at 6:08 p.m., and the expected nighttime low is 43 degrees. Winds will be light and variable. The weekend forecast calls for highs of 68 on Saturday and 69 on Sunday.
