NEWS

Drive-through flu shot clinic is Friday

The annual drive-through flu vaccination clinic is from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., today at Western Village off of Alder Street. The clinic is a cooperative effort between the Kittitas County Health Department and Community Health of Central Washington. The free vaccine is for children and adults, but with a limited supply, it will be first come-first served. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone over 6 months old receive a flu shot. 


Central welcomes comedian for homecoming show

Comedian Preacher Lawson performs for Central’s Homecoming Comedy Show at 9 p.m., tonight, in the Student Union Ballroom. Lawson is one of the top comedians to come out of the America’s Got Talent show. Central is his only stop in Washington on his Funny as Bleep national tour. Tickets are available on Central’s website.


Bonfire bash on Friday

The 509Teens Bonfire Bash is from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, at 801 Snodgrass Road. The free event is for youth, age 12 to 17, and features food, a costume contest and pumpkin bashing. The Kittitas County Recovery Community Organization sponsors the event.


Help restore salmon habitat

Mid-Columbia Fisheries is looking for volunteers to help restore salmon habitat on the Yakima River from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday. Volunteers will meet at 3200 McManamy Road and work on the Yakima River Mile 160 fish passage channel. All materials will be provided but dress for the weather and bring gloves and a water bottle.


Party support Josie’s Misfit Ranch

Josie’s Misfit Ranch’s annual Halloween Party fundraiser is 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday, in the Draft Horse Barn at the Kittitas County Fairgrounds. There will be a haunted house with state-of-the-art animatronics, pumpkin decorating, a kids’ art contest, and Halloween-themed games with snacks and hot chocolate for sale. Admission is $5 for the party and $2 for the haunted house. The money goes to help save animals wounded in body and spirit.


Last market of the season

The final Ellensburg Farmers Market of the season is Saturday in downtown Ellensburg. The Ellensburg Dancing Witches are scheduled to perform at 10:30 and 11 a.m. on the corner of Fourth Avenue and Pine Street.


Ballots being returned

Kittitas County voters received their Nov. 5 General Election ballots last week and as of Thursday afternoon, about 15 percent of ballots had been returned. All ballots must be returned by 8 p.m., Nov. 5.


SPORTS

High school football is on tap tonight

In high school football tonight, Ellensburg travels to play Prosser, Kittitas hosts Highland, and Cle Elum-Roslyn visits La Salle. All games kick off at 7 p.m.


Central’s Homecoming game is Saturday

CWU’s football team celebrates Homecoming with a game against Midwestern State at 6 p.m., Saturday, at Tomlinson Stadium. Central is 4-1 in Lone Star Conference play, good for second place behind Angelo State and Western Oregon.


Wildcat 4k this weekend

The Wildcat 4k Run, Roll and Stroll is at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, starting at the Student Union and Recreation Center eastside patio. The CWU Alumni Association sponsors the event, which is open to students, staff, alumni and community members. Registration is $10.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table Lunch is braised beef street tacos, roasted corn slaw and peaches. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.


WEATHER                                                                              

The forecasted high today in Ellensburg is 56 degrees. Sunset is at 5:56 p.m., and the expected nighttime low is 36 degrees. Winds will be 5 to 10 mph.  The forecast highs this weekend are 62 on Saturday and 59 on Sunday.
