Celebrating public lands Saturday
Multiple agencies and organizations will celebrate National Public Lands Day on Saturday. The Kittitas Environmental Education Network is holding a clean-up and maintenance effort at the Yakima Canyon Interpretive Center starting at 9 a.m. Volunteers will help with park cleanup, trail work, picnic shelter prep and planning.
The Cle Elum Forest Service Ranger District and the Bureau of Land Management are organizing a volunteer cleanup event at the Liberty/Williams Creek recreation area near Liberty from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Gloves tools and project supplies will be provided.
Lumberjack show is set for this weekend
The PNW Timberfest is set for today through Sunday at Elk Heights Distillery off Dolarway Road. Participants compete in axe throwing, crosscut sawing, underhand chopping, tree climbing, springboard chopping and log rolling. Today’s competition starts at 3 p.m. Admission is free.
Have coffee with council members
The monthly Coffee with City Council event is from 8 to 10 this morning at The Early Bird on Main Street. A couple of council members will be available for coffee and conversation.
Car seat clinic
The Ellensburg Police Department’s last car seat clinic of the season is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, at the EPD. Certified techs will ensure that the car seats are as safe as they can be.
Cle Elum celebrates Oktoberfest
Cle Elum’s inaugural Oktoberfest is set for Friday through Sunday. Participating businesses include Dru Bru, Basecamp Outfitters, Pioneer Coffee, Upsidedown Wines and Mountain Elegance. The Cle Elum Downtown Association is organizing the event.
Duo on Punch Projects stage
Riley and Nicole will perform on the Punch Projects Stage from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday. This is a free, all-ages event.
Dirtbag Carnival on Saturday
CobraHawk headlines the Dirtbag Carnival at the Iron Horse Brewery Tap Room starting at 5 p.m. Saturday. In addition to the music, there will be hotdog eating contests and games including beer can baseball. This is a 21-plus event. Tickets are $20.
Movie night at Roslyn Yard
“The Dark Crystal” is the Roslyn Yard Summer Nights movie at sunset on Saturday. Admission is free.
Jam in Roslyn
The Roslyn Creative Center hosts an acoustic music jam at 6:30 p.m. Monday. Participants are invited to bring an instrument and a tune or two to share.

Chance for kids to play disc golf
A Youth Disc Golf League gets underway from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Irene Rinehart Riverfront Park. The league is for ages 10 to 18 years old and will run every Saturday through Oct. 14 with a youth tournament on Oct. 21. Cost is $25. To register, email eburgdgclub@gmail.com.
CWU football travels to face a familiar foe
The Central Washington University football team travels to play traditional rival Western Oregon University at 1:05 p.m., Saturday in Monmouth, Ore.
Central’s volleyball team travels to play Seattle Pacific at 2 p.m., Saturday.

The FISH Open Table lunch is biscuits and gravy, vegetable scrambled eggs and oranges. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
