Run for the Brave on Sunday

The Ellensburg Run for the Brave 5K is on Sunday at Rotary Park. Registration is at 8 a.m. with the race starting at 9 a.m. Participants are welcome to run, walk or push a stroller with the family. The event is organized by the Ellensburg Area Swim Team and is a fundraiser for the swim team and the Kittitas County Veterans Coalition.


Big weekend for Buskers

The annual Buskers in the Burg takes to streets Saturday in downtown Ellensburg. Buskers will perform throughout downtown from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There also will be an arts parade, a Kids and Pets Parade and other kids activities. The Ellensburg Downtown Association organizes Buskers in the Burg. The top three buskers are announced at the main stage in Unity Park at 1 p.m.


Cle Elum volunteer honored

The Cle Elum City Council awarded the Paul Pangrazzi Award to Gary Berndt at its meeting this week. Berndt is a former Cle Elum mayor and county commissioner with an extensive list of volunteer activities over his years in Cle Elum. The Paul Pangazzi Awards honors a person each year for their volunteer work and contributions to the community.


Opportunity to vaccinate your dog

The Yakima Humane Society’s Ellensburg Shelter is offering a dog vaccination clinic from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday. Microchips also are available. Information on the clinic and fee schedule is available on the Yakima Humane Society’s Facebook page.


Volunteers needed for trail work

The Mountains to Sound Greenway is organizing a Mount Lillian Trail Work party starting at 9:30 a.m., Saturday. Volunteers will gather at the Ken Wilcox Horse Camp. Tools and safety gear will be provided. The project difficulty is rated as moderate.

Fundraiser supports Cle Elum Skate Park

The second annual Cle Elum Skate Park Revival fundraiser is at 4 p.m., Saturday at Dru Bru-Cle Elum. There will be live music, silent and live auctions and the Shred Session beer will be released with funds going to phase two of the Cle Elum Skate Park project. Admission is free.


Horse show is Sunday

The Bits and Buckles 4-H Horse Fall Open Show is at 8 a.m., Sunday at Bloom Pavilion on the Kittitas County Fairgrounds. The event judge is Claire Alderman.


Alley to be closed

The alley between First Avenue/Second Avenue and Alder Street/Maple Street will be closed Oct. 2-5 for sewer line repair.


4-H Open House next week

The Kittitas County 4-H Open House is 5:30 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at Teanaway Hall on the Kittitas County Fairgrounds. The open house is an opportunity to learn about 4-H programs and the opportunities to volunteer.


SPORTS

Action under the lights tonight

Tonight’s slate of high school football games is highlighted by a county showdown with Kittitas traveling to battle Cle Elum-Roslyn at 7. Ellensburg hosts Prosser at 7.

In Saturday’s high school sports action, Easton hosts Wishkah in six-man football at 1 p.m. at Thorp High School, and the Ellensburg swim team travels to a league meet in Selah at 10 a.m.


Central sports on tap this weekend

In Central Washington University sports action on Saturday, the Wildcats football team travels to play Western New Mexico at 5 p.m. The CWU volleyball team hosts St. Martin’s at 1 p.m. The Wildcats soccer team welcomes Seattle Pacific at 7 p.m.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table lunch is French dip, mixed vegetables and an orange. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.


WEATHER

The forecasted high today in Ellensburg is 62 degrees. Sunset is at 6:46 p.m., and the expected nighttime low is 39 degrees. Winds will be from 5 to 10 mph. There is a full moon. The weekend forecast calls for highs of 67 on Friday, and 70 on Sunday.
