NEWS

CWU faculty members honored

The 2023 Central Washington University Distinguished Faculty recipients were named by the CWU Board of Trustees. This year’s honorees were: Megan Walsh, geography — Distinguished Faculty for Teacher; Lily Vuong, religious studies — Distinguished Faculty for Scholarship; Sharryn Walker, literacy — Distinguished Faculty for Service; and Eric Graham, craft brewing — Distinguished Faculty for Non-Tenure Track Teaching. Each recognized faculty member will receive an award of $2,500.


Fire district receives award

Kittitas County Fire District 6 is the recipient of the 2023 Kittitas County Public Health Champion Award. The award is in recognition of their work to care for some of the most vulnerable people in our community and their goal of understanding people and addressing all their needs. The award will be presented during the Kittitas County Board of Health meeting at 10 a .m., June 15.


WEATHER

The high in Ellensburg is forecasted as 68 degrees. The wind is projected to be 11 to 19 mph, with gusts up to 37 mph.


EVENTS

Ellensburg music students wrap up the year

The end-of-the-year Morgan Middle School band concert is 6 p.m., Thursday. The Ellensburg High School Choir’s final performance of the year is 7 p.m., Monday. Both concerts are in the Morgan Performing Arts Center.


CWU choirs and chamber orchestra perform

The CWU Choirs perform Faure’s Requiem and Brahams’ Nånie with the CWU Chamber Orchestra at 7 tonight in the McIntyre Music Building Concert Hall. Tickets are $15 for general admission.


Final Wind Ensemble concert

The CWU Wind Ensemble presents its final concert of the school year, “Lux Perpetua” at 7 p.m., Thursday, in the McIntyre Music Building. Admission is free.


A time to dance

The Kiwanis Luau Dance is 6 p.m., Friday at the Hal Holmes Community Center. It is free and open to all ages.


Event honors artists

The Kittitas County Open Show reception and awards ceremony starts at 5 p.m., Friday, at Gallery One as part of the First Friday festivities. This year’s juror, Linley Logan selected 117 works and will distribute $500 in awards. The awards will be announced at 6:30 p.m.


LUNCHTIME

Lunch at the Ellensburg School District elementary schools today is Cheese and Pep Ripper at Ida Nason Aronica, Valley View and Mount Stuart and Domino’s Pizza at Lincon. All grade schools will serve green beans, salad bar and fresh fruit. Middle school students can choose chicken strip basket, southwest chicken salad, a burger basket, deli sandwiches, salad bar and fresh fruit. Lunch items at the high school include pulled pork sandwich, Domino’s Pizza, burger basket, deli sandwich, salad bar and fresh fruit.


The FISH Open Table lunch today is loaded baked potato with beef chili, sour cream, green onion and cheddar cheese, along with broccoli and garlic toast. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone in need of a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
