Changes are coming to the city of Ellensburg's online bill-paying portal, but the payment drop box still stands sentinel in the City Hall parking lot, a real-world bill-paying portal operating on a 24/7/365(6 in leap years) basis.

City Council meets Monday

The Ellensburg City Council will consider an ordinance updating the city’s utility billing policies and procedures at Monday’s meeting. As part of the transition to a new billing system, the finance director would be authorized to pause the delinquency process for late payments.


School board sets schedule for superintendent search

The Ellensburg School Board approved a superintendent search schedule at its meeting last week. Preliminary interviews would be done Feb. 10 and final interviews, Feb. 12-14, with the final selection announced on Feb. 15. A contract would be offered by Feb. 28. The new superintendent would start on July 1.


Good Life discussion on Tuesday

The Good Life Community Discussions asks, “Is Bodily Immortality Bearable? East-West Perspectives,” at 6 p.m., Tuesday at Hal Holmes Community Center. The discussion will feature CWU philosophy and comparative religion professor Jeffrey Dippman. Community Discussions are sponsored by CWU Ethics Lab and the Ellensburg Library.


Limited service at the finance/utility counter

The finance/utility counter at City Hall will provide limited service on Dec. 7-11 and will full fully closed on Dec. 11 to allow for the implementation of a new online utility customer portal.


Community Christmas sponsors still needed

FISH Food Bank still needs donors for the annual Community Christmas program. As of this weekend, sponsors had signed up for 234 families, but 188 families are still in need. The program provides gifts for children and seniors. More information is available on the FISH Facebook page.


Sounds of the season

People who enjoy holiday caroling are invited to take part in Christmas Caroling with the Valley Voices Community Choir. Rehearsals will be held at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday and Dec. 12 at the Ellensburg Presbyterian Church in preparation for caroling on Dec. 17 and 19. Suggested donations are $30 for a family to participate in the series.


Night Market is Wednesday

The first Holiday Night Market of the season is from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at Gard Vintners and the Ridge Encore at 404 N. Pine St. The event features vendors with handmade goods, sweet treats and more.


Girls Night Out is Thursday

The annual Holiday Girls Night Out is from 5 to 9 p.m., Thursday in downtown Ellensburg. Check is at the Ellensburg Downtown Association office at 109 E. Third

Avenue where there will be refreshments and music. Participating businesses offer deals and discounts.


CWU Jazz Holiday Concert is Friday

The Central Washington University Jazz Band 1 will perform Duke Ellington’s Nutcracker Suite as well as other holiday classics, at 7 p.m., Friday in the McIntyre Music Building. Tickets are $15 for general admission.


Annual Beef Counts distribution is Friday

The annual Beef Counts distribution is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday at the Armory Building at the Kittitas Valley Events Center. Beef Counts is a cooperative effort between the Cattlemen’s Association and Second Harvest. The boxes include produce, perishable groceries and chubs of ground beef.


SPORTS

CWU football, volleyball seasons come to an end

The CWU football team’s season came to an end Saturday with a 38-14 loss to Colorado School of Mines in the NCAA Division 2 National Quarterfinals. The CWU volleyball ended its season with a 3-0 loss to Cal State San Bernardino in the NCAA Division 2 West Region Tournament.


High school hoops on Tuesday

In high school basketball action on Tuesday, the Ellensburg boys’ team hosts Wenatchee at 7 p.m.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table Lunch is minestrone and mixed fruit. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
