CWU reviews Executive Orders
Central Washington University has formed a triage team to review Executive Orders issued by the Trump Administration, the CWU Board of Trustees was told at its meeting Thursday. As of Thursday, 86 orders had been issued with 24 directly impacting CWU. The board was cautioned that two or three orders are issued each day. Orders touch on a range of topics including diversity, equity and inclusion, Second Amendment rights, and anti-Christian bias.
County health offers vaccine clinics
The Kittitas County Health Department is offering a series of five childhood vaccine clinics with the first from 8 a.m. to noon, today at 507 N. Nanum St. The other clinics will be on March 3, 10, 18 and 31 at the same time and location. There is no cost for the vaccines. Call 509-962-7515 to schedule an appointment.
Alley closure this week
The alley between Chestnut and Poplar streets and Seventh and Eighth avenues will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday for a sewer line repair at 808 E. Eighth Ave.
Pertussis case investigated at EHS
A confirmed case of pertussis has been reported at Ellensburg High School, involving the school’s cheer team. The Kittitas County Health Department recommends that all cheerleaders and associated staff get tested for pertussis, especially if they are experiencing symptoms. Pertussis has been increasing in the state. The illness can cause severe cough and can be especially dangerous for infants, according to the Washington State Department of Health.
Concert band performance on Thursday
The CWU Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will perform at 7 p.m., Thursday, in the McIntyre Music Building. The concert is free.
EHS Winter Musical continues this week
The Ellensburg High School Winter Musical, “Anything Goes” continues this week with shows at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday at the Morgan Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $15 for general admission.
“Dracula” has shows this weekend
The CWU Theatre Department production of “Dracula: A Feminist Revenge Fantasy, Really,” continues this with 7:30 p.m. showings Friday and Saturday and a 2 p.m. performance on Sunday. Tickets are available on the CWU Theatre website.
SPORTS
Ellensburg girls to host Columbia River
The Ellensburg High School girls’ basketball team earned the No. 2 seed in the state 2A tournament and will host Columbia River in the opening round at 6 p.m. Friday.
Cle Elum girls earn No. 7 at state
The Cle Elum-Roslyn girls’ basketball team lost the Brewster, 58-48, Saturday in a game to determine seeding at the state 2B tournament. The Warriors earned the No. 7 seed and open the state tourney at Adna at noon on Saturday.
Central teams win on Senior Night
The CWU women’s and men’s basketball teams won against St. Martin’s on Senior Night on Saturday. The women won 81-74, while the men rolled to a 87-70 victory. Heading into the final week of regular season play, the women are in third place in the GNAC at 13-4 in league play. The men sit in first place with a 13-3 record. The Wildcats travel to play Western Washington on Thursday and Simon Fraser on Saturday.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is split pea and ham soup, a roll and apples. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
