City Council meets tonight

The Ellensburg City Council meets at 7 p.m., tonight in the City Council Chambers. Discussion of an ordinance to reorganize the Public Works and Utilities Department into the Public Work and Energy Services Departments is on the agenda. Prior the meeting the council will receive an update on the Fieldhouse Project at Rotary Park at a 6 p.m. study session.

 

Meeting focuses on fire district consolidation

A joint meeting between the Cle Elum and Roslyn city councils, the South Cle Elum Town Council and the Fire District 6 commissioners to discuss consolidation of fire districts will be held at 6 p.m., tonight at the Upper Kittitas County Senior Center.


Dean Nicholson Boulevard closure next week

Dean Nicholson Boulevard will be closed at North Walnut Street from Tuesday through Friday for an above-ground well test for the new CWU North Academic Complex project. Traffic will be routed to East 18th Avenue.


Horn quartet to perform at CWU

The horn quartet Genghis Barbie performs at the McIntyre Music Building at 7 p.m., Thursday. The quartet of Freedom Barbie, Velvet Barbie, Tiger Barbie, and Attila the Horn will present a program featuring music by Queen, Whitney Houston, Chappell Roan, Brandi Carlisle, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Imogen Heap, Alison Krauss, Demi Lovato, Stevie Wonder, the Beach Boys, Eurythmics, and more! Tickets are $15 for general admission.


Shaquem Griffin to speak at CWU

Former Seattle Seahawk Shaquem Griffin will speak at Central Washington University at 7 p.m., Feb. 13 in the SURC Ballroom. Griffin made history as the first one-handed player in the National Football League. His presentation is part of Central’s Black History Month celebration and is free and open to the public.

Ellensburg sweeps Othello

In high school basketball on Friday, the Ellensburg girls continued their unbeaten season with a 54-6 win over Ephrata. The Bulldog boys defeated Ephrata, 51-48. Ellensburg hosts Othello on Tuesday with the girls game at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m.

 

Central basketball pulls off an exciting win

In a showdown of first-place men’s basketball teams, the CWU pulled out a 91-88 overtime win over Northwest Nazarene when Maverick Sanders sank a three-point shot at the buzzer. Central put seven players in double-figure scoring and shot 70 percent from three-point range. The Wildcats welcome Alaska-Anchorage on Thursday and Alaska-Fairbanks on Saturday.

 

CWU women split in Alaska

The CWU women’s basketball team defeated Alaska-Fairbanks, 81-70, on Saturday following a 65-56 loss to Alaska-Anchorage on Thursday. The Wildcats host Western Washington on Thursday and Simon Fraser on Saturday.

 

Baseball/softball registration is open

Ellensburg Youth Baseball and Softball registration closes on Friday. The league is open to kids ages 4 through 12. Registration information is on the organization’s website.

 

CWU football holds Signing Day celebration

The CWU football staff will hold a Signing Day Celebration at 5 p.m., Wednesday in the Pat Lacey Hospitality Suite in Nicholson Pavilion.
