City facility to serve as warming center

With low temperatures in the forecast, the lobby between the Ellensburg Public Library and Hal Holmes Community Center will open early at 8 a.m., each day this week to serve as a morning warming center.


Point-in-time counts approach

The annual Point-in-Time Count of the homeless population is Thursday. Training for those interested in assisting is from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday. Contact HopeSource at 509-925-1448 for registration information.


Bullfrog Flats development public hearing on Thursday

A public hearing for the Bullfrog Flats Development Project will be at 6 p.m., Thursday, at Cle Elum City Hall. The Bullfrog Flats Development Project is a phased, mixed-use development located in the western part of Cle Elum, between Bullfrog Road and SR 903. The application includes the first three phases of the project. These phases are part of an overall project proposed to be developed over an approximately 10-year period and include 1,334 single-family and multifamily housing units, 950,000 square of business park uses, and open space including parks, trails and recreational facilities. The hearing is before the city’s Hearing Examiner.


Family Storytelling program on Thursday

Hal Holmes Community Center hosts Family Storytelling: The Importance of Story to Family Legacy at 6:30 p.m., Thursday. The event aims to help people learn how to incorporate storytelling in preserving family history. It is free and open to the public.


Lunar New Year Festival on Thursday

A Lunar New Year Festival will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, in the SURC Ballroom. The Korean Culture Club, Asian Studies Program, and some others are giving students and community members a space to celebrate and others to learn about and enjoy the holiday through entertainment and food.


SPORTS

High school hoops results from weekend

In high school basketball this past weekend, the Ellensburg girls’ basketball team remained undefeated for the season with a 59-47 win over Prosser on Friday and a 52-35 win over Grandview on Saturday. The Bulldog boys dropped two games, losing to Prosser, 87-78, and to Grandview, 78-58. The Kittitas girls defeated Goldendale, 61-29 on Friday. The Coyote boys fell to Goldendale, 57-51. The Cle Elum boys lost two games, 65-54 to La Salle on Friday, and 73-61, to White Swan on Saturday. The Warrior girls defeated White Swan, 54-33 on Saturday.


CWU sweeps Western Oregon

The CWU women’s and men’s basketball teams defeated Western Oregon on Saturday. Sammy Huerta became Central Women’s All-Time leading scorer with 17 points in the 66-35 win over the Wolves. The Central men rolled to a 93-71 win over Western Oregon. Garrett Anderson led the way with 24 points.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table Lunch is bacon corn chowder, a roll and peaches. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
