NEWS

City Council meets Monday

The Ellensburg City Council meets at 7 p.m., tonight, in Council Chambers. The meeting includes a public hearing to consider amendments to the Land Development Code.

 

County seeks affordable housing proposals

Kittitas County is seeking proposals to increase the affordable housing inventory in the county. The projects would be financed through the funds generated by the Document and Recording Surcharge and the Affordable and Supportive Housing Sales and Use Tax Credit. The proposals are due by 5 p.m., Jan. 24.


Sandbags available

In response to the wet weather conditions, the city of Ellensburg has made sandbags available to residents at two locations: 

• 7th Avenue & Cascade Street in West Ellensburg

• Kiwanis Park parking lot (Main Street and 14th Avenue). Residents may place the sand into the sandbags and take them to their property to protect in the event of a local flooding threat.


SPORTS

High school basketball results

In high school basketball this weekend, the Ellensburg boys’ team defeated Quincy, 63-52, on Friday and topped Ephrata, 57-46, on Saturday. The Bulldog girls defeated Quincy, 75-14, on Friday, and beat Ephrata, 74-14 on Saturday. The Kittitas boys beat Cle Elum-Roslyn, 75-55, on Friday. The Kittitas girls lost to Cle Elum-Roslyn, 62-29, on Friday. Cle Elum faced Brewster and Saturday, with the girls losing, 55-46, and the boys falling 70-52.


Central men and women lose

In Central Washington University basketball on Saturday, the Central men lost, 85-78, to Northwest Nazarene and the CWU women lost, 68-61, to Alaska-Anchorage.


Tiny Tots registration opens today

Registration for Tiny Tots Basketball opens at noon, today. Tiny Tots is for kids age 3 to 5 years old with winter camps held from the end of January through March. Space is limited and usually fills fast. Registration information is on the Parks and Recreation page of the city’s website.


3-on-3 registration ends Friday

Registration for Adult 3-on-3 Basketball closes on Friday. Games are played on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The league is open to men and women over 16. Individuals can register and be placed on a free agent list. Registration information is on the Parks and Recreation page of the city’s website.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table Lunch is chicken and sausage gumbo, jasmine rice and peaches. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
