Top Story Today: Shooting At The Gorge
Two people were killed and several others were wounded in a mass shooting at the campgrounds near Washington’s Gorge Amphitheatre during an electronic dance music festival Saturday night, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. Three people were wounded, including the shooter, who was taken into custody, authorities said. The report of the shooting came in at about 8:25 p.m. at the campgrounds near the town of George, the Sheriff’s Office. The Festival was canceled for Sunday
A day to make music
The annual Make Music Day is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in downtown Ellensburg. This day is celebrated across the world with musicians of all skill levels taking to the streets, sidewalks, restaurants and parks to play music. There will be several outdoor stages and indoor venues throughout Ellensburg. This event is sponsored by the Ellensburg Downtown Association.
Start to summer reading
The Kick-off for the Ellensburg Public Library’s Summer Reading program for kids is the Touch-a-Truck event at 11 a.m., Wednesday at Rotary Park. The summer reading program continues with special events every Wednesday throughout the summer.
EVENTS
The Ellensburg Night Market is from 5 to 9 p.m., Wednesday on Pine Street between Third and Fourth avenues. This is a once-a-month summer event offering an opportunity to shop unique vendors and support micro-business owners in the community. The market is organized by the Ellensburg Downtown Association.
Coming together to paint
The first event of the Ellensburg Public Library’s summer adult reading program is Paint Together Now at 6 p.m., Thursday, at Hal Holmes Community Center.
Getting involved this week
The following councils and commissions meet this week:
• The Ellensburg City Council meets at 7 p.m., Monday, at city hall.
• The Kittitas County commissioners meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday in the commissioners’ auditorium.
• The Kittitas School Board meets at 7 p.m., Wednesday, in the district office boardroom.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table lunch today is vegetarian chili, cornbread and pears. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
Summer lunch program starts today
The FISH Picnic in the Park free summer lunch program for children 18 and under, starts today. There are five lunch locations in Ellensburg, one in Cle Elum, and one in Kittitas where lunch will be served Monday through Friday. There is a weekly pickup site on Thursdays in Easton. More information is available on the FISH Food Bank Facebook page.
