Graduation week is here

All Kittitas County high schools hold graduation ceremonies this week.

On tap are:

• Ellensburg High School, 7 p.m., Thursday at the high school.

• Thorp High School, 6 p.m., Friday, at the high school.

• Easton High School 12 p.m., Saturday, at the high school.

• Cle Elum-Roslyn High School, 2 p.m., Saturday, at Walter Strom Middle School gym.

• Kittitas Secondary School, 7 p.m., Saturday, at the secondary school.

CWU grads to speak at ceremonies

Central Washington University will hold two graduation ceremonies Saturday, at 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., and both commencement addresses will be delivered by graduating seniors. Elizabeth Jenkins, a computer science major, will speak at the morning ceremony, and Kian Addalkhani, an accounting major, will speak at the afternoon ceremony.

Ellensburg honored as bike-friendly

The city of Ellensburg received a silver-level Bicycle Community Award from the League of American Bicyclists for the third time. The award honors cities for creating transportation and recreational resources that encourage healthier and more sustainable transportation choices/


A chance to check out the horse

The Washington State Horse Park in Cle Elum is holding a business open house from 3 to 6 p.m., Tuesday. There will be appetizers, refreshments and a chance to tour the park. People planning to attend are asked to RSVP on the horse park’s website.

Getting involved this week

The following council and commissions meet this week:

• The Ellensburg City Council meets at 7 p.m. on Monday at city hall.

• The Kittitas County commissioners meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday in the commissioners’ auditorium.


Lunch at the Ellensburg School District elementary schools today is chicken corndog, salad bar and fresh fruit. Middle school students can choose chicken patty sandwich, buffalo chicken salad, burger basket, deli sandwiches, salad bar and fresh fruit. Lunch items at the high school include chicken corndog and potato wedges, Domino’s Pizza, burger basket, deli sandwich, salad bar and fresh fruit.

Today's FISH Open Table lunch is grilled lemon chicken Caesar salad with romaine, pickled red onion, croutons, parmesan cheese, tomato and artichokes. Lunch also features garlic toast and peaches. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
