Chamber honors businesses

At last week’s Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Awards Gala, businesses were honored. Award recipients were Best New Business, Buddy’s Barkery; Best Small Business, Jam Shop; Best Customer Service, Roslyn Theatre; Best Outdoor Recreation/activity, Lazy F Ranch and Retreat Center; Restaurant of the Year, Canyon River Ranch; Nonprofit of the Year, Kittitas County Recovery Community Organization; Community Impact of the Year, Roslyn Downtown Association; Legacy business of the year, Arnold’s Ranch and Home; Business of the Year, The Palace Café. More than 900 votes were cast across all awards categories.


Ellensburg water passes test

Ellensburg’s water system met Environmental Protection Agency standards for lead and copper in testing this past September. Testing is required every three years on a minimum of 30 homes or businesses.


Learn to derby

A session in the Rodeo City Roller Derby’s free Roller Derby 101 is from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., Tuesday at Ellensburg High School. The basics of roller derby are taught by expert instructors.


Lenny Price performs

Lenny Price performs at the Mule Cocktail Bar at 6 p.m., Wednesday.


Final film in series

The final film in CWU’s Women’s History Month Film Series is “Night Raiders” at 5:30 p.m., Thursday in Samuelson Hall Room 104. “Night Raiders” is set in a post-apocalyptic future where a mother is trying to save her daughter from a government facility. The film is free and open to the public.


Pint Night for Gallery One

The Iron Horse Brewery and Taproom hosts a Pint Night for Gallery One from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday.  A $1 from every pint sold goes to support Gallery One. The event includes all-ages printmaking with supplies provided.


Fun for dogs and kids Friday

The annual Dog Biscuit Hunt and Flashlight Egg Scramble occur on Friday at Rotary Park. The Dog Biscuit Hunt for biscuit and chew toys starts at 6 p.m. The dog’s handler must be at last 16 years old. The Flashlight Scramble for kids, ages 1 to 12, for eggs, candy and prizes starts at 8 p.m. Participants must bring their flashlights and baskets.


SPORTS

EHS grad wins at Oregon track meet

Wyatt Franklin led the CWU track team contingent at the Oregon Preview in Eugene, Oregon on Saturday with a win in the discus throw. Franklin, an Ellensburg High School graduate, set three personal bests throughout the meet.


CWU players earn All-America honors

CWU women’s basketball player Sunny Huerta received the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s All-America honorable mention honors. Huerta also was named first-team All-GNAC.


LUNCH                                                        

The FISH Open Table Lunch is elk chili, cornbread and pears. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
