Road closed ahead

Two of Ellensburg’s main thoroughfares will be closed overnight this week to allow the installation of permanent pavement markings. Main Street will be closed between Third Avenue and University Way and Wildcat Way will be closed between University Way and Wildcat Way from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Friday. This will mark the completion of the city’s overlay project.


Drive-thru vaccine clinic is on Wednesday

The annual drive-thru flu and COVID vaccine clinic is 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Kittitas County Fairgrounds Western Village. Vehicles should enter from Alder Street. The clinic is organized by the Kittitas County and Health Department and Community Health of Central Washington. The vaccines are free but supplies are limited.


Middle school choir concert tonight

The Morgan Middle School Choir Concert is at 6 tonight in the Morgan Performing Arts Center.


Orchestra fundraiser is Tuesday

The Ellensburg School District Orchestra program holds its annual Movie Madness Fundraiser Concert at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Morgan Performing Arts Center. Students in grades 7-12 will play music from “Coco,” “Jurassic Park,” “Pink Panther,” “Brave,” “Up,” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.” There will be a costume contest for the audience and performers. A $10 donation is suggested.


CWU hosts Women of Law and Justice conference

Central Washington University hosts the inaugural Women of Law and Justice conference from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday in SURC Room 137. The event will feature 25 women from across the field of law enforcement who will discuss their career paths, interests, work life and personal stories before taking questions from the audience. CWU’s Department of Law and Justice is organizing the conference.


Concert of the season approaches

CWU’s Symphony Orchestra presents its annual Halloween Concert at 7 p.m., Wednesday in the McIntyre Music Building. This concert features seasonally spooky music and an array of creative costumes. Tickets are $15 for general admission.


Learn about the plight of pygmy rabbits

The Kittitas County Audubon Society will present “The Pygmy Odyssey: A small rabbit’s journey back to the sagebrush,” at 7 p.m., Thursday at the Hal Holmes Community Center. State Department of Fish and Wildlife biologist Katherine Soltysiak will talk about the recovery of the Columbia Basin pygmy rabbit population over the past 20 years.


Hunters breakfast at wind farm

Puget Sound Energy and the Kittitas Field and Stream Club are hosting a free Hunter Breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m., Friday at the Wild Horse Renewable Energy Center. Hunting is allowed on the 11,000-acre wind farm property but hunting access permits must be filled out online. Permits will not be available at the visitor center.


Results from Friday night football

In high school football play Friday night, Ellensburg kept its playoff hopes alive with a 33-17 win over East Valley. The Bulldogs must defeat Ephrata Friday and get a little help to advance to post-season play. Cle Elum-Roslyn fell to Goldendale, 2-0, and Kittitas defeated Highland, 55-6.


CWU celebrates Homecoming with a win

CWU’s football and volleyball teams celebrated Homecoming weekend with wins. On the gridiron, redshirt freshman quarterback Kennedy McGill led the Wildcats to a 30-14 win over West Texas A&M. McGill ran for 137 yards and passed for 132 yards. Central remains undefeated in Lone Star Conference play. The volleyball squad swept Montana State-Billings, 3-0. The Wildcats are tied for second in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table lunch is chicken a la king, mashed potatoes, peas, a dinner roll and applesauce. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.

The forecasted high today in Ellensburg is 58 degrees. Sunset is at 6 p.m., and the expected nighttime low is 37 degrees. Winds will be from 25 to 35 mph with higher gusts possible.
