NEWS

City Council meets Monday

The Ellensburg City Council meets at 7 p.m., tonight. A discussion of an agreement between the city and the Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce regarding economic development services is on the agenda.


Voter registration event on Tuesday

A National Voter Registration event sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Kittitas County and the Ellensburg Public Library is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, at Hal Holmes Community Center. The event includes a demonstration of the county’s Accessible Voting Unit which allows voters with disabilities to vote in complete privacy.


Swauk Creek Fire containment increases

The Swauk Creek Fire was at 324 acres and 28 percent containment as of Sunday afternoon. Crews continued to work on the fire perimeter over the weekend to expand containment.


Night Market on Wednesday

The last Ellensburg Night Market of the summer is from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, on Pine Street between Third and Fourth avenues. The family-friendly event features micro-businesses, food trucks, live music and children’s crafts. Ellensburg Downtown Association organizes the event.


Alley closure announced

The alley between Fifth and Sixth avenues and Main and Pearl streets will be closed from Wednesday to Oct. 2 to install ADA-compliant driveway approaches on the north and south ends of the alley.


Urban flooding workshop scheduled

A workshop on urban flooding will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Sept. 26 at Ellensburg City Hall. The event will be an opportunity to learn about flooding concerns and to ask questions.


SPORTS

Results from Friday night football

In Friday night high school football, Ellensburg lost 7-3 to Selah on the road. The Bulldogs held a 3-0 lead heading into the fourth quarter. EHS falls to 0-2 for the season and welcomes Ephrata at 7 p.m., Friday. Kittitas defeated Columbia-Burbank, 19-12, to even its record at 1-1 for the season. The Coyotes next host Forks at 2 p.m., Saturday. Cle Elum-Roslyn fell to Adna, 42-0, to drop to 1-1 for the season. The Warriors play Friday Harbor at Granite Halls High School at 5 p.m., Friday. Easton dropped its season-opener, 62-0, to Clallam Bay on Saturday. Easton plays Wishkah at 1 p.m., on Saturday at Cle Elum-Roslyn High School.

 

CWU football defeats Colorado Meda

The Central Washington University football team notched its first win of the season, 28-12, over Colorado Mesa State on Saturday. The Wildcats controlled the game on the ground with Cam Daniels and Tyler Flanagan each running for 78 yards and quarterback Kennedy McGill adding 53 yards rushing. The Wildcats remain on the road with a game at West Texas A&M at 6 p.m., Saturday.

 

CWU volleyball wins one of three

The Central volleyball team won one of three matches at the CWU Invitational over the weekend. The Wildcats defeated Cal Poly Pomona but lost to Cal State Bernardino and Cal State Los Angeles. CWU travels to play league-foe Western Oregon at 7 p.m., Thursday.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table Lunch is chicken Alfredo, broccoli and pears. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.

The forecasted high today in Ellensburg is 82 degrees. Sunset is at 7:10 p.m., and the expected nighttime low is 53 degrees. Winds will be 10 to 25 mph.
