City posts survey on priorities
Ellensburg residents and business owners are asked to take a survey identifying top priorities for the city over the next five years. The survey will be available until May 8 on the city’s website.
Groundbreaking for Community Labyrinth
The Community Labyrinth Project celebrates a groundbreaking at 11:30 a.m. today on the corner of 1201 North B Street on the Grace Episcopal Church property. At 6 tonight there will be a Community Song Circle at the Labyrinth.
Storyteller to perform
Storyteller Dan Nanamkin performs at 5:30 p.m. tonight at the Morgan Performing Arts Center. Nanamkin is the founder and director of the Young Warrior Society. His show focuses on Indigenous culture.
Lion Rock features Callum Angus
CWU’s Lion Rock Visiting Writer Series features trans writer and editor Callum Angus today in the CWU Brooks Library Student Commons. There will be a craft talk at noon and Angus will read from his story collection, “A Natural History in Transition,” at 6 p.m.
Juried art exhibit opens
CWU’s Juried Undergraduate Student Art and Design Exhibition opens today at the Sarah Spurgeon Gallery in Randall Hall. There is a reception at 5 p.m. with an awards ceremony at 6 p.m. This year’s jurors, who select the artwork for the exhibit and assign several awards, are Olivia Lane and Karl Schwiesow. Lane works for Seattle-based design Tether. Schwiesow is the director of the Palace Gallery in Ellensburg. The exhibit remains through May 4.
CWU opera opens on Thursday
CWU’s production of the classic opera, Die Fledermaus, debuts at 7 p.m., tonight in McConnell Auditorium. The opera will be performed in English and include a host of modern touches. The opera continues with shows at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $20 for general admission.
Campus-Community dialog event on Saturday
A World Café: Campus and Community Dialogue is at 2 p.m., Saturday in Sue Lombard Hall on the CWU campus. The event uses the World Café model with small-group discussions and facilitators. The goal is to connect a diverse group of residents for a meaningful conversation. There will be free refreshments and snacks.
Cleanup day at Roslyn Park
There will be a clean-up day at Roslyn’s Runge Field/Pioneer Park from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday. Volunteers are to meet at the tennis courts and break a rake and a wheelbarrow.
Cops and Bobbers on Saturday
The annual Cops and Bobbers fishing event in honor of Kittitas County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Thompson is on Saturday at the Ryan Thompson Memorial Pond off Naneum Road. It runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Information on how to sign up is on the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Facebook page.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is Cajun chicken and sausage and peaches. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
