A total of 160 emergency responders were deployed early Tuesday at multiple fires along Interstate 90. Some responders are sleeping in tents outside of the high school during breaks in their firefighting duties. Officials noted that it wasn’t economically feasible for firefighters to stay in hotels after doing 16-hour shifts.

With concerns rising about a proposed smoke shop across the street from The Shop Teen Center, the Cle Elum City Council approved a six-month ban on new retail stores that sell vaping products at its meeting last week.

The Kittitas Valley Memorial Pool & Fitness Center will be closed for annual maintenance and cleaning from Sunday, August 24 to Sunday, September 7. The pool will reopen with a new fall schedule on Monday, September 8.

The FISH Open Table Lunch is Sloppy Joe with Mixed Vegetables and Whole Fruit. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Ellensburg Open Table, and noon to 1 p.m., at the Cle Elum Seventh Day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg Open Table.
