Cle Elum-Roslyn voters approve levy

Cle Elum-Roslyn voters approved the school district’s request for a four-year Educational Programs and Operation Levy. As of Tuesday night’s vote count, the levy had received a 68 percent yes vote. The levy gradually increases from $3.4 million to $4.3 million. The election will be certified on Feb. 23.

 

Meetings relocating

Contractors will be working on the Ellensburg City Council Chambers over the next two weeks so meetings scheduled for the location will be relocated. Public space will be limited at the alternate sites so people are encouraged to participate via Zoom. Meeting location information is available on the city’s website.

 

Exhibit opens at Sarah Spurgeon Gallery

Mother Tongue, an exhibit of photo-based media and installation created by Rafael Soldi and Victor Yañez Lazcano opens today at the Sarah Spurgeon Gallery on the CWU campus. Opening festivities include an artist talk at 4 p.m. in the SURC Theatre and a reception at 5 p.m. in the gallery.

 

Non-fiction writer featured in Lions Rock

The Lions Rock Visiting Writers Series features non-fiction writer and poet Juliet Patterson today. Patterson will present a craft talk from noon to 1 p.m., in the Brooks Library Commons, and hold a reading from her work at 6 p.m. in the Commons. Patterson is the author of “Sinkhole: A Legacy of Suicide,” and two poetry collections.

 

Brewfest on tap this weekend

The annual Ellensburg Winterhop Brewfest takes place starting at noon Saturday in downtown Ellensburg and continuing until 5 p.m. The event features about 20 breweries, 12 venues throughout town, and 11 musical groups performing. General admission tickets are $45 and include a commemorative tasting glass, tasting scrip and entry to the event.

 

Library closed Friday

The library will be closed Friday for a staff retreat and on Monday for the Presidents’ Day holiday. It will be open at its regular hours on Saturday. All city offices are closed on Monday.

 

Full range of entertainment at Old Skool’s

Old Skool’s host Heart-istry —  a night of poetry, music and circus at 6:30 p.m., Friday. There will be readings by eight poets, music sets from four performers and a variety act by Twinspin Circus.

 

Patriot Night lineup announced

Country Western star Aaron Tippin headlines the 2024 Patriot Night Under the Lights lineup. The Kittitas County Event Center announced the entertainers for the annual July 4 event this week. Keith Anderson will perform at the after-party.

 

Input sought on I-90 solutions

The STEER I-90 Coalition is seeking public input on alternatives for improving traffic safety and connectivity on the interstate between Easton and Cle Elum. A public webinar will be held on Zoom on from 6 to 7 p.m., Feb. 20. An in-person open house will be held at the Cle Elum Senior Center from 6 to 8 p.m., Feb. 28.

 

SPORTS

High school wrestlers advance to Mat Classic

Local high school wrestlers advanced through last weekend’s Regional tournaments to qualify for the state Mat Classic, starting Friday at the Tacoma Dome. Ellensburg sends eight wrestlers to state; Kittitas sends five; and Cle Elum-Roslyn sends two boys and one girl.


Bulldogs boys' season ends

The Ellensburg High School boys’ basketball season ended in the district playoffs on Tuesday night with a 60-59 loss to East Valley.

 

LUNCH                                                        

The FISH Open Table Lunch is chicken Parmesan with pasta, asparagus and chocolate-covered strawberries. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.

The forecasted high today in Ellensburg is 38 degrees. Sunset is at 5:24 p.m., and the expected nighttime low is 30 degrees. Winds will be 5 to 15 mph. There is a 40 percent chance of snow overnight.
