Cle Elum Council hears update on fire department plan

The Cle Elum City Council listened to an update on fire district consolidation talks and indicated a willingness to proceed with the process while not committing to a decision. Representatives of the Cle Elum, Roslyn and South Clum fire departments and Fire Districts 6 and 7 held a community forum in early February to discuss consolidation efforts.


Limits placed on Umptanum Road

Immediate weight restrictions have been placed on Umptanum Road between mileposts 2.68 and 5.22 due to road conditions. A temporary restriction of Gross Vehicle Weight of 26,000 pounds has been implemented. Kittitas County Public Works will update the weight restrictions for the road segment when road conditions improve.


Concert band performance on Thursday

The CWU Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will perform at 7 p.m., today, in the McIntyre Music Building. The concert is free.


Ellensburg Big Band plays Friday night

The Ellensburg Big Band performs at the Big Swing Dance, The Ellensburg Swing Out at 7 p.m., Friday at the Ellensburg United Methodist Church. A dance lesson proceeds the dance at 6:30 p.m. Donations are accepted to help cover the cost.


EHS Winter Musical continues this week

The Ellensburg High School Winter Musical, “Anything Goes” continues this week with shows at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday at the Morgan Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $15 for general admission.


“Dracula” shows this weekend

The CWU Theatre Department production of “Dracula: A Feminist Revenge Fantasy, Really,” continues this with 7:30 p.m. showings Friday and Saturday and a 2 p.m. performance on Sunday. Tickets are available on the CWU Theatre website.


CWU Leadership Conference is Saturday

The CWU Leadership Conference is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday in the Student Union and Recreation Center. The conference title is The Power of You, Leading with Authenticity. There will be workshops, keynote speakers and professional development. It is free to CWU students.


Ellensburg Academy approaches

The next session of the Ellensburg Academy is from 6 to 7:30 p.m., March 12 at Hal Holmes Community Center. The Academy is a series of civic education workshops designed to inform residents and community stakeholders about city government operations and what is involved in delivering and maintaining services to the residents of Ellensburg. If interested, people can RSVP on the city’s website.


SPORTS

Ellensburg girls to host Columbia River

The Ellensburg High School girls’ basketball team earned the No. 2 seed in the state 2A tournament and will host Columbia River in the opening round at 6 p.m. Friday.


Cle Elum girls earn No. 7 at state

The Cle Elum-Roslyn girls’ basketball team earned the No. 7 seed and open the 2B state tourney at Adna at noon on Saturday.  


CWU hoops on the road this weekend

The CWU basketball women’s and men’s teams take to the road for the final weekend of regular season play. Central men travel to face traditional rival, Western Washington at 7 p.m. tonight. The Wildcats play at Simon Fraser at 7 p.m., Saturday. Central women play at Northwest Nazarene at noon, Saturday. CWU men head into the weekend in first place in the GNAC and the women sit in third place.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table Lunch is vegetable pasta, Mozzarella cheese and apples. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
