Last day to submit nominations

Today is the last day to submit a nomination for the 2024 Ellensburg Historic Preservation Awards. The awards are sponsored by the city’s Landmark and Design Commission and the Kittitas County Historical Museum. The awards ceremony is on May 4. Nomination information is on the city’s website.

 

Final weekend for EHS Winter Musical

The final performances of the Ellensburg High School Winter Musical production of “Shrek” are at 7 p.m., Friday, and 2 and 7 p.m., Saturday in the Morgan Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $15 for general admission.

 

Tour CWU project Friday

Tours of the North Academic Complex site on the CWU campus for students and staff will be offered from 9 to 11 a.m., Friday. A presentation for community members on the geothermal technology included in the project is from noon to 1 p.m. in Discovery Hall, Room 103.  The complex features a 104,200-square-foot structure replacing the Language and Literature building.

 

4-H volunteer training on Thursday and Friday

Kittitas County 4-H is holding volunteer training sessions today and Friday. Today’s session is from 6 to 8 p.m., and Friday’s is from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Kittitas Valley Event Center. New volunteers must attend one of the sessions. Registration information is available on the Kittitas County 4-H Facebook page.

 

CWU Theatre presents Yakima River Adventure

The CWU Theatre Department’s “Yakima River Adventure” production will include general audience shows and Sensory Shows for autistic individuals and people with profound complexities in the Milo Smith Tower Theatre. In the Sensory Shows, each participant will be seated in a boat, guided by one or two river guides. The experience will last 30 minutes. General audience shows will feature groups of eight to 10 walking through the production. The first general audience show is Thursday and the Sensory Show debuts Saturday. Information on tickets and times is available on the CWU Theatre Department’s website.

 

Lunch concert on Friday

Kairos and Friends presents a free lunch concert at noon, Friday, at Hal Holmes Community Center. The 40-minute concert features CWU music professors, students and community members performing various short pieces.

 

Cycle studio grand opening

Toa Cycle Studio’s grand opening in 5:30 p.m., Friday at 711 S. Main Street. The grand opening includes a performance by CWU Poly Central.

 

Check out the new ECR home on First Friday

Ellensburg Community Radio is holding an open house at its new location in the INK Building at 405 N. Main St. as part of this week’s First Friday festivities. Star Anna will perform and an exhibit of Theo Denner’s concert posters will help promote the Ellensburg Music Preservation Project. Doors open at 5 p.m.

 

CWU Choir Concert Sunday

The CWU Choir Concert featuring University Chorale Wildcat Chorus, Vox Divina and the CWU Chamber Choir is at 7 p.m., Sunday, in the McIntyre Music Building. Tickets are $15 for general admission.

 

SPORTS

County teams advance at state

The Ellensburg High School girls’ basketball team plays White River at 10:30 a.m., today, in the quarterfinals of the State 2A girls' basketball tournament in the Yakima SunDome. With a win, the Bulldogs would play in a seminal game at 3:45 p.m., Friday. The Cle Elum-Roslyn High School girls’ basketball team’s season came to an end Wednesday with a 53-46 loss to Okanogan.

 

Wildcat men can wrap up tourney berth

With a win over the next two home games, the CWU men’s basketball team can secure a berth in the GNAC tournament. Central plays St. Martin’s at 7:30 tonight and hosts Western Oregon at 6:15 p.m., Saturday. This year’s men’s GNAC tournament will be played at Nicholson Pavilion on March 7th through 9th.

 

LUNCH                                                        

The FISH Open Table Lunch is teriyaki chicken, jasmine rice and Mandarin oranges. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
