Ava LaValley has been crowned Miss Washington Rodeo Queen for 2026. LaValley was given the tiara at her coronation in Hotel Windrow on Feb. 7. She was originally announced as queen late October.

Voters were approving the Easton School District’s expiring property tax levy for educational programs and operations — but rejecting a capital levy that would pay to replace the school’s 60-year-old gym floor — in the initial vote count for the Feb. 10 Special Election. Proposition 1, a measure to replace the district’s expiring property tax levy for educational programs and operations, was ahead, 52.36% to 47.64%. The vote for Prop. 2, a capital levy to improve school facilities, was 55.17% opposed, and 44.83% in support.

The renewal levy in the Kittitas School District to pay for educational programs and operations was falling to defeat in the initial vote count for the February 2026 Special Election. Proposition 1 was being rejected by Kittitas voters, 52.11% to 47.89%

Two school funding measures in Thorp were sailing to victory on Election Night. The Thorp School District’s Proposition 1, a measure to replace the district’s expiring property tax levy for educational programs and operations, was cruising to passage, 56.5% to 43.5%. Proposition 2, a replacement of the Thorp district’s expiring capital levy for instructional technology improvements, was passing in near-landslide proportions.

Ellensburg voters were saying “yes” to the Ellensburg School District’s request for a replacement levy to fund educational programs and operations. Proposition 1 was headed to approval Tuesday with 54.38% in favor of the property tax levy. The “no” vote stood at 45.62% in the first count of votes on Election Night.

The plan to renovate the historic Old Heat facility at Central Washington University into a business incubator space is expected to create hundreds of jobs, according to a recently completed feasibility study. The project is intentionally designed to create high-wage employment in areas that include aerospace and precision component manufacturing, clean technology and other targeted sectors rather than low-wage service sector jobs that are prevalent in Kittitas County.
