Ellensburg has inked a new contract with the Yakima Humane Society for the organization to keep running the city’s animal shelter. The Ellensburg City Council gave the green light to the three-year agreement at its Monday meeting. The Yakima Humane Society has operated the Ellensburg shelter since 2022. The existing contract between the city and the nonprofit expired at the end of December, and the new agreement will run through 2028.
Most of those polled on how Cle Elum should pay off the $25 million debt that forced it to seek bankruptcy don’t view the debt itself as important. The city of Cle Elum hired a market and research opinion firm to conduct a poll late last year to take the pulse of voters on the city’s bankruptcy filing.
Kittitas County commissioners have appointed Naisan Geula to the Airport Advisory Board. Geula is an Ellensburg resident and is a vice president at CloudBees. He has a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of California, Berkeley.
Teanaway Country Store is opening a second location in the anticipated Suncadia Social development that is set to be done this summer. The second location, Forage Home & Gift, is “designed as a complimentary yet distinct extension of the original Teanaway Country Store,” said Suncadia officials.

The FISH Open Table Lunch is Sloppy Joes, Mixed Vegetables and pears. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Ellensburg Open Table, and noon to 1 p.m., at the Cle Elum Seventh Day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg Open Table.
