MLK Remembrance at CWU

A Martin Luther King Jr. Remembrance program will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m., today in the SURC Theatre. The event features a vocal performance by CWU Benefits Specialist Melany Peterson and a brief keynote by Andre Dickerson, a CWU alumnus and current Assistant Dean of Students for the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business. 


Council distributes lodging tax fund

The Ellensburg City Council agreed to the 2025 distribution of Lodging Tax funds at its meeting on Monday. The county and all its municipalities pay into the fund which is then awarded countywide. Ellensburg-based recipients included the Ellensburg Music Festival, Gallery One, the Kittitas County Historical Society and the Ellensburg Rodeo Hall of Fame. Countywide, 17 applicants received more than $468,674.


Point-in-time counts approach

The annual Point-in-Time Count of the homeless population is Jan. 30. Training for those interested in assisting is from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday and 11 to noon on Jan. 28. Contact HopeSource at 509-925-1448 for registration information.


Banned Books event on Thursday

Lion Rock Visiting Writers Series and CWU Libraries present “Banned Books,” an event dedicated to celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of intellectual freedom from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday in the Brooks Library Student Commons.


Coast Guard band to play at Central

The United States Coast Guard Band will a free concert in the McIntyre Music Building, at 7 p.m., Feb. 23. The free event is part of the Coast Guard Band’s Centennial Celebration Concert Tour, marking the 100-year milestone for the ensemble.

 

SPORTS

CWU hoops take to the road

The Central Washington University basketball teams are on the road this week. The men and women play at St. Martin’s today with the women’s game at 5:15 p.m. and the men at 7:30 p.m. The Wildcats visit Western Oregon on Saturday with the women’s tipoff at 2 p.m. and the men's at 4:15 p.m.

 

EHS hosts wrestling meet

The Ellensburg High School boys and girls wrestling teams host Prosser today with the girls’ competition starting at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m.

 

High school basketball on tap this weekend

In high school basketball this weekend, Ellensburg hosts Prosser on Friday with the girls’ game at 5;30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m. On Saturday the Bulldogs travel to Grandview with the girls at 3:30 p.m. and the boys at 5 p.m. Kittitas travels to play Goldendale on Friday with the girls at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m. The Cle Elum-Roslyn boys host La Salle at 7 p.m., Friday. There is no girls’s game. On Saturday, the Warriors travel to White Swan with the girls at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table Lunch is a Sloppy Joe, broccoli, mixed vegetables and an orange. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
