Highway 10 near Thorp will stay closed indefinitely following the rockslide that hit the roadway last week, the Washington State Department of Transportation announced Tuesday. The highway was closed between Milepost 97 and Milepost 99 after falling rocks covered the roadway on Dec. 26.
Commissioners for Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue have started contract negotiations for the department’s interim fire chief.
The board of fire commissioners is considering Roy Palmer, a retired fire chief from Oregon, for the post. Commissioners gathered Monday morning for a special meeting to evaluate the qualifications of an applicant for public employment.
Scott Power has taken over as the new head football coach for Central Washington University. Power is not unfamiliar with the Wildcats legacy. He joined the Wildcats in 2016 as defensive coordinator before switching to East Texas A&M.
Ellensburg Central Transit buses will not be running New Year’s Day. Regular services will resume on Friday, January 2nd.
The Ellensburg City Council Meeting will hold its first meeting of the new year on January 5, 2026. The meeting will take place at 7:00 p.m. at Ellensburg City Hall.
Karaoke with DJ Forrest Gump happens tonight at 9:00 PM at The Brick Saloon up in Roslyn.

Central Washington University’s Women’s Basketball team plays on tonight at 6:15 p.m. at Alaska-Fairbanks and on January 3rd at 6:15 p.m. at RV Alaska Anchorage.
The Central Washington University Men’s Basketball team returns to action on Saturday, January 3rd vs RV Northwest Nazarene here at home.
