NEWS
Roughly 15% of eligible voters have already made their minds up for next week’s special and primary election. A total of 4,270 voters have returned their ballots to Kittitas County for the Aug. 5 election through Monday, according to the Kittitas County Auditor’s Office.
Ellensburg city staff signed a lease agreement with Grace Church for a year-round cold weather shelter at the city council’s meeting last week.The intent is for the city to cover more than $70,000 in facility costs while Kittitas County covers the operational contract, but the county has yet to confirm its financial support in actual numbers.
Owen Blauman, a candidate for Ellensburg City Council Position 2, has been fined $200 by the Washington State Public Disclosure Commission for missing deadlines on required campaign filings.
The City and partners will hold an ADU Information Session at Hal Holmes Community Center, on August 19 from 6-8 p.m. Learn about the phases of planning, financing, and constructing and managing an ADU followed by a period where attendees can ask specific questions about ADUs.
The Youth Gladiator Dash is this Saturday, August 2 at Rotary Park. Day-of registration ($15 per participant) starts at 9:30 a.m. by the soccer fields. The race kicks off at 10 a.m. Open to kids ages 5 through 8th grade.
The intersection of 3rd Ave. and Lincoln St. will be closed from 9 a.m. July 30 to 6 p.m. today, so the new 18’’ sewer main can be installed. The road will be reopened once it is safe to do so. For questions, please contact Public Works at (509) 962-7230.
Crews worked to wrap up northbound paving work on Water St. yesterday, and will start the southbound lane today. Paving is going slower than anticipated due to the high temperatures. Work will continue through the week of August 4. Expect similar traffic control.

LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is a Biscuits and Gravy with Roasted Peppers and Grapes. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Ellensburg Open Table, and noon to 1 p.m., at the Cle Elum Seventh Day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg Open Table.
