A former Sunnyside fire chief, a fire protection engineer at Hanford, and a fire chief from Idaho are the three finalists in Kittitas Valley Fire & Rescue’s search for a new chief. Fire commissioners for Kittitas Valley Fire & Rescue publicly named the three candidates Monday. The announcement followed an all-day, private interview session between commissioners and the four applicants at Ellensburg City Hall on July 1.


Kittitas County Public Hospital District No. 2 is seeking applications from qualified residents to fill a vacancy on its Board of Commissioners. Ingrid Vimont resigned from the position May 16 due to an “unexpected family emergency and a necessary relocation out of the area,” she told the board in an email. The open seat, Position 3, will be filled through an appointment process.


The Central Washington University Surplus Sale takes place today at 10 a.m. at the CWU Surplus Warehouse. Some of the merchandise in sale #2026-04 consists of: 25’ light poles, large air compressor, pitching machines, tackling dummy, small safe, skateboard, costumes, decorations, dining tables, wood bookcase, Craftsman scroll saw, electric scooter, desks, end tables, and sofas.


The Roslyn Summer Reading program “Unearth a Story” continues today at 11:00 a.m. at the Roslyn Public Library. Go listen to a story by Linda Cooper and make some fun crafts with Josie Kalmback. 


The Central Washington University Lydia Planetarium Summer Series continues today as well at 3:00 p.m. at the Lydig Planetarium. This session focuses on Nebulas.

WHAT'S FOR LUNCH AT THE FISH OPEN TABLE?


The FISH Open Table lunch tomorrow is Chopped Italian Sandwich on an Italian Roll with Apples. The senior lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ellensburg Open Table at 204 North Main Street, and noon to 1 p.m. at the Cle Elum Seventh Day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg Open Table.
