A bankruptcy judge has cleared the way for Cle Elum to move forward. After a two-day hearing in May and more than two hours of argument this week, Judge Whitman Holt ruled from the bench that the city qualifies for Chapter 9 bankruptcy protection, overruling every objection from City Heights Holdings. City Heights is the developer still waiting on nearly 26 million dollars the city owes after a judge found Cle Elum broke a development agreement for a 962-home project. Mayor Matthew Lundh shared the ruling at a special council meeting Monday and called it an important milestone, but he said the work isn't over. The city now has to file a plan to pay off its debts with the court by July 31st.

A former South Cle Elum resident has been charged with voter fraud for allegedly casting ballots in two different states during the 2024 General Election. Prosecutors claim Rachelle Yvonne Ellis mailed in ballots for elections in Washington and Colorado. Ellis was living in Longmont, Colo. at the time of the election. Ellis appeared in Kittitas County Superior Court on Thursday via video. A pleading of not guilty was offered on her behalf by attorney Ulvar Klein.

The arraignment of a former Kittitas County sheriff deputy accused of pointing a pistol at people after he was kicked out of a Roslyn bar earlier this month has been postponed until August. Nicholas Ronald Burson, 40, is facing felony charges of three counts of second-degree assault with a firearm as well as official misconduct.

In local events, the Roslyn Public Library hosts its summer reading program, "Unearth a Story," at 11 this morning. This evening, Toastmasters International meets at 5:30 at the Hal Holmes Community Center, and over in Roslyn, the Friends of the Roslyn Library gather at 5:30 as well. And the Beading Beauties beadwork circle meets at 6 o'clock at the Kittitas County Historical Museum downtown.
