The Ellensburg City Council is taking a harder look at the roof over the Kittitas Valley Memorial Pool. The council agreed this week to commission a deeper review of the project, which carries a price tag of around $1.2 million. The pool roof has been a growing concern for the city, and this is the next step toward figuring out what to do about it.

The restaurant is right next to Central Washington University, on property owned by CWU, at 201 E. University Way.

Ellensburg's Memory Cafe has found a permanent home, and it happens to be right inside a music store. The free support group for people living with dementia — and their families and caregivers — now meets at Old Skool's on 301 W. Fourth Ave., where the owner cleared space in the stage area. The cafe runs from 1 to 3 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of each month. That's today. Organizer Michael Hendrick says the group has built a solid core of regulars and welcomes newcomers anytime. For information, call 509-201-1119.

The City of Ellensburg is looking for a handful of volunteers to serve on a small committee that will consider updates to the city's taxi code. Community members with an interest in local transportation — or anyone who currently holds a taxi license — are encouraged to apply. The committee will meet up to five times. You have until June 20th to get your name in. Call the City Manager's office at 509-962-7221 or email citymanager@ellensburgwa.gov

And this weekend is Washington's Free Fishing Weekend. No license required, and no Discover Pass needed for parking at state lands. The Ellensburg Morning Rotary Club is marking the occasion with the annual Fiorito Fishing Frenzy on Saturday at Fiorito Lake — that's four miles southeast of town off Vantage Highway. The free event is open to kids 14 and under. Registration starts at 9 a.m., fishing runs until noon, and prizes include bicycles, rods, and tackle boxes. Bait is provided. Kids don't need any fishing experience — volunteers will be on hand to help.

The CWU Wind Ensemble presents its final concert of the year — and the farewell performance of Director T. André Feagin, who has led the program for six years. The free concert is tonight at 7 p.m. in Hertz Concert Hall in the McIntyre Music Building on the CWU campus. The program includes works by Eric Whitacre, David Maslanka, and the Symphony No. 2 of James M. David, who will be in attendance as composer-in-residence.

Toastmasters International meets tonight at 5:30 p.m. at the Hal Holmes Community Center.

Tomorrow is First Friday, and the Ellensburg City Council is taking it to the streets. The council is hosting Coffee with City Council during the Art Walk at Unity Park — that's 4th Avenue and Pearl Street — from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. Stop by for a cup of coffee and a conversation with your councilmembers.
