Central Washington University’s Opera Ensemble will present a fully staged production of “Cinderella” by Massenet in Hertz Concert Hall in April. The production, directed by Gayla Blaisdell, will be performed in collaboration with the CWU Chamber Orchestra. Organizers of the show said the opera will spotlight student vocalists in the leading and supporting roles as well as a stellar chorus. Opera rehearsals have been ongoing since February.
A conference has been scheduled for later this week in the city of Cle Elum’s bankruptcy case to set new deadlines for court proceedings. The session follows a request by City Heights Holdings to have the bankruptcy case dismissed. In a letter to Chief Judge Whitman Holt, the presiding judge in Cle Elum’s request for Chapter 9 bankruptcy relief in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Washington, attorneys for Cle Elum raised issues about the scheduling of the case. Earlier this month, City Heights Holdings challenged the city’s eligibility to seek Chapter 9 bankruptcy and said the city had acted in “bad faith” during settlement discussions.
Kittitas County Auditor Bryan Elliott has officially announced his re-election campaign. Elliott is seeking a second term. A Republican, he defeated Jerry Pettit, a Democrat, in 2022.
Sathy Rajendran has stepped down from the Ellensburg Planning Commission. Rajendran announced the formal resignation in an email to the city on Feb. 17 and apologized for the short notice.
SPORTS
The Cle Elum-Roslyn Warriors won their first state title in Boys’ Basketball in more than two decades, and their first-ever championship in the 2B classification, by taking down Reardon 49-43 in the title came in Numerica Veterans Arena in Spokane on Saturday.
The Central Washington University Women’s Basketball Team plays #8 Seed Montana State Billings here at home on Friday.
The CWU Track and Field team competes at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships this Friday in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
The Central Washington University’s Softball team plays Simon Fraser at 4:00 p.m. on Friday also in Burnaby, B.C.

WHAT'S FOR LUNCH AT THE FISH OPEN TABLE?
The FISH Open Table Lunch schedule for March is Chicken and Biscuits, Season vegetables and mixed fruit. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Ellensburg Open Table, and noon to 1 p.m., at the Cle Elum Seventh Day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg Open Table.
