Biden and Trump win county Presidential primary

Joe Biden and Donald Trump were the winners in the Kittitas County Presidential Primary voting on Tuesday. Biden led Democrats with 2,729 votes or 87.3 percent. The next highest recipient was uncommitted with 181 or 5.8 percent. Trump topped the Republican field with 4,817 or 78.8 percent. Nikki Haley was the runner-up with 1,091 or 17.8 percent. Biden and Trump also were the winners in the statewide voting.


Cast your vote for a historic building

The Windmill Building on South Main Street and the I.O.O.F. Building on North Pine Street have been nominated for the 2024 Community Selected Historic Preservation Award. Votes can be cast on the city’s website or by submitting a written vote to the Community Development Department in City Hall. Voting is open until 5 p.m., March 31. The winner will be honored at the Historic Preservations Award Ceremony on May 4.


Road closure notice

Pfenning Road from the junction of Vantage to Third Avenue will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday next week. Work is taking place on the Pfenning Road Shared Use Pathway project.


EHS Hall of Fame class named

Ellensburg High School will induct Bob Godes, the 1970 football team, Dave Hall, Jeri Watson, Buck Jones, Joe Heilman and  Amanda Faire into the EHS Athletic Hall of Fame in a ceremony at 7 p.m., April 6 in the high school commons. Tickets are available online and at the high school athletic office.  


Women’s History Month Film Series continues

CWU Women’s History Month film series continues with a showing of the Chilean film “The Cow Who Sung the Song into the Future,” at 5:30 p.m., today in Samuelson Building Room 104. All events in the series are free and open to the public.


Library closed on Friday

The Ellensburg Library will be closed on Friday for spring cleaning. The library will reopen on Saturday.


Grant funding available

Downtown businesses can apply for up to $2,000 through the Ellensburg Downtown Association Building Revitalization Fund Program to beautify storefronts, enhance infrastructure and more. The fund is sponsored by Umpqua Bank. Applications will be available on April 1 and accepted through April 30.


Time to train for .5K

Iron Horse Brewery’s annual St. Paddy’s Day .5K is set for Saturday. The .5K takes place at 2 p.m. at the brewery and is part of a festival of events extending until 8 p.m. There will be food trucks, games, live music from Mike O’Malley and Killdeer String Band and a family-friendly dance party hosted by Ellensburg Community Radio. Tickets are $20 with proceeds going to the FISH Food Bank. The first 200 to purchase tickets receive a .5K T-shirt.


SPORTS

Wildcat men play Friday night

Central Washington University men’s basketball team plays Cal State Dominguez Hills at 7:30 p.m., Friday, in Los Angeles in the NCAA Division II West Region tournament. The Wildcats earned the No. 5 seed by winning the GNAC tournament this past weekend. A victory would advance Central to play in the winner of Cal State LA vs. Azusa Pacific.

 

Roller derby meet on Saturday

The Rodeo City Roller Derby meets Alter Egos Roller Derby in the Skate Patrick’s Day meet at Saturday Ellensburg High School. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. and the first whistle is at 4 p.m. Tickets are available on the Rodeo City Roller Derby website.

 

LUNCH                                                        

The FISH Open Table Lunch is chicken teriyaki, jasmine rice, stir-fried vegetables and Mandarin oranges. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
