Poll results show public priorities

A poll asking residents to rank top priorities for the city of Ellensburg over the next five years resulted with parks, recreation programs and at the top of the list. The other priorities were economic development, public safety, housing and infrastructure. During the month of polling, 414 people responded.


Health Champion named

Community Health of Central Washington has received the 2024 Kittitas County Public Health Champion Award. The Kittitas County Public Health Champion Award recognizes individuals, groups, or organizations that make significant contributions to the health of Kittitas County. A donation from former Kittitas County Health Officer Jim Gale funds the $500 award. Community Health of Central Washington was noted for its work with some of the most vulnerable people in the community.


Taxi service approved

The City Council granted the certificate of necessity required for Blake Collins to operate the Rainier Taxi and Courier Service in Ellensburg at its Monday meeting.


Cultural Futures workshop Thursday

Cultural Futures, a funding, police and advocacy workshop for cultural businesses and supporters is 11 a.m., today at Gallery One. Register for the free workshop on Gallery One’s website. Inspire Washington presents the workshop.


Korean dance performance on Thursday

There will be a traditional Korean music and dance performance from 3 to 5 p.m., Thursday in the McIntyre Music Building. The event features multifaceted artist Che Sehyun and his performance team and members of the traditional dance group, Morado.


Night shift for University Way overlay

Crews of the University Way overlay project will work the night shift this week, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., through today. Driveways and side streets will be closed while the asphalt cools.


Easton Memorial Day celebration

The 33rd annual Easton Memorial Day celebration is Saturday in Easton. A noon parade highlights the event that includes live music, a kids' zone, a car show and numerous food and craft vendors.


Memorial Day services in Roslyn

The Upper County Memorial Day Service honoring veterans will be held at the Roslyn Historic Cemetery at 11 a.m., Monday.


Memorial Day services in Ellensburg

Ellensburg’s Memorial Day Celebration will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday, at Veterans Memorial Park. A lunch provided by local Rotary Clubs follows the ceremony with donations going to local veterans organizations.


SPORTS

Kittitas softball starts state tourney Friday

The Kittitas Secondary School softball team will open state 2B tournament play on Friday at the Gateway Sports Complex in Yakima against the Lake Roosevelt vs. Liberty winner. The time of the game has not been announced. A win would send the Coyotes into the semifinals on Saturday.


Track athletics compete at state

State track and field meets take place this week. Ellensburg High School athletes compete in the 2A State Meet at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma today through Saturday. Cle Elum-Roslyn and Kittitas athletes compete at the state 2B meet at Zaepfel Stadium in Yakima today through Saturday.


LUNCH                                                        

The FISH Open Table Lunch is biscuits and gravy and applesauce. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
