Odd Fellows hold reopening celebration

The Ellensburg Odd Fellows Lodge will hold a grand re-opening ceremony at 4 p.m., today at the lodge at 307 N. Pine Street. There will be music, refreshments and an opportunity to tour the newly renovated space.


Celebrating Dia de los Muertos

CWU continues its celebration of Dia de los Muertos this week with an event at 7 tonight, in the Student Union Ballroom featuring music by Los Faraones del Norte, free hot chocolate and several activity stations.


Lunch concert Friday

Kairos and Friends will perform a free lunch concert at noon, Friday at Hal Holmes Community. This is part of a monthly First Friday concert series that continues through March.

Burning on Cle Elum Ranger District

Forest Service crews will attempt to burn piles in the Cle Elum Ranger District today and Friday.


Lions Rock forum focuses on genre writing

CWU’s Lions Rock Visiting Writers Series presents a panel discussion on genre writing and alternative publishing from 6 to 7:30 p.m., today in Samuelson Room 131. The panel will feature three writers from a variety of genres and mediums.


Annual book sale starts Thursday

The annual Friends of Brooks Library Book Sale starts on Thursday and continues through Saturday in the Brooks Library Lobby.


New exhibit opens at Sarah Spurgeon Gallery

A new exhibit, “Where I-90 meets I-82” opens at the Sarah Spurgeon Gallery on the CWU campus on Thursday. The exhibit, which pays tribute to Ellensburg’s location, features the work of 44 artists from across the country. Opening events for the exhibit include a talk by the juror for the exhibit, Stafano Catalani, at 4 p.m., Thursday in the SURC Theatre, followed by a reception at the gallery at 5 p.m.


Big band to perform

The Ellensburg Big Band will perform Friday at the Ellensburg Methodist Church. Swing dance lessons will be offered at 6:30 p.m. and the band will take the stage at 7 p.m. This is a free concert, but donations will be accepted to support the Joel Talerico Memorial Scholarship Award.

Central hosts climate coalition summit this weekend

CWU hosts an environmental and climate coalition summit from Friday through Sunday. The Front and Centered 2023 Members’ Summit, “Soulful Solidarity,” will provide an opportunity for CWU students, faculty, and staff, to interact with other local advocates from around the state who are focused on environmental justice and the climate crisis. Several events at the summit are open to the public, including the keynote address at 7 p.m., Friday in the SURC Theatre. More information is available on CWU’s website.


Recovery organization fundraiser is Saturday

The annual Kittitas County Recovery Community Gala fundraiser starts at 5 p.m., Saturday in Sue Lombard Hall. The gala features silent and live auctions, a dinner and a dance reception. General admission tickets are $60.


Fall Clean Up on Saturday

The annual downtown Ellensburg Fall Clean Up is at 8 p.m., Saturday. The check-in table will be at Rotary Pavilion. There are jobs for all ages, abilities and schedules. The Clean Up is organized by the Ellensburg Downtown Association.


Avian flu detected in Kittitas County

Avian flu has resulted in the death of multiple birds in a small domestic flock of mixed birds in Kittitas County, according to the state Department of Agriculture. While avian flu is highly contagious among birds, the risk of spreading to humans is low. Information on reporting avian flu cases is available on the state Department of Agriculture website.

The FISH Open Table lunch is closed today for the groundbreaking ceremony at the FISH Warehouse.
