Fitterer’s Building grand opening

The grand opening for the renovated Fitterer’s Building in downtown Ellensburg is from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., today. The official ribbon cutting is at 3 p.m. The former furniture store is now home to multiple businesses including Woody’s Classic Man, The Sweet Spot, Siren Song Bistrot, The Grazing Table, Sparrows Nest, Ponderosa Construction and RLR Cultural Resources. There will be a raffle with prizes announced after the ribbon cutting.


Ellensburg Academy offered

The Ellensburg Academy is offered at 6 p.m. today at Hal Holmes Community Center. The Ellensburg Academy is a series of civic education workshops designed to inform residents and community stakeholders about the operations of city government and what is involved in delivering and maintaining services to Ellensburg residents. RSVP on the city’s website.


Drive-through flu shot clinic is Friday

The annual drive-through flu vaccination clinic is from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday at Western Village off Alder Street. The clinic is a cooperative effort between the Kittitas County Health Department and Community Health of Central Washington. The free vaccine id for children and adults, but with a limited supply, it will be first come-first served. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone over 6 months old receive a flu shot. 


Central welcomes comedian for homecoming show

Comedian Preacher Lawson will perform for Central’s Homecoming Comedy Show at 9 p.m., Friday, in the Student Union Ballroom. Lawson is one of the top comedians to come out of the America’s Got Talent show. Central is his only stop in Washington on his Funny as Bleep national tour. Tickets are available on Central’s website.


Help restore salmon habitat

Mid-Columbia Fisheries is looking for volunteers to work to restore salmon habitat on the Yakima River from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday. Volunteers will meet at 3200 McManamy Road and work on the Yakima River Mile 160 fish passage channel. All materials will be provided but dress for the weather and bring gloves and a water bottle.


Ballots being returned

Kittitas County voters received their Nov. 5 General Election ballots last week and as of Wednesday afternoon, about 11 percent of ballots had been returned. All ballots must be returned by 8 p.m., Nov. 5.


SPORTS

EHS basketball player signs with CWU

Ellensburg High School senior Garrett Marrs, a 6-foot-9 forward, announced this week he will play college basketball at Central Washington University in 2025.


Wildcat 4k this weekend

The Wildcat 4k Run, Roll and Stroll is at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, starting at the Student Union and Recreation Center eastside patio. The CWU Alumni Association sponsors the event, which is open to students, staff, alumni and community members. Registration is $10.


Local teams ranked in state.

The Ellensburg High School volleyball is ranked No. 1 in this week’s 2A State Poll.  The Kittitas volleyball team is No. 6 in the 2B Poll. The Cle Elum-Roslyn soccer team is No. 6 in the 1B/2B Poll. All three teams competed today. EHS travels to play Toppenish at 6 p.m. Kittitas volleyball hosts Highland at 6:30 p.m. Cle Elum’s soccer team welcomes Granger at 6 p.m.

In high school athletics today, the Ellensburg cross country team hosts a league meet at 5 p.m., at Rotary Park. Cle Elum-Roslyn cross country competes in the league championship meet at 3:30 p.m. at Apple Ridge Run. The Warriors volleyball team travels to play White Swan at 6:30 p.m.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table Lunch is sausage, cheese and vegetable scramble, hash browns, a biscuit and pears. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
