Mural project underway
The Ellensburg mural project is taking shape on the side of the Blue Rock Saloon building on Fourth Avenue. James Clifton did the outside lettering and Thomas Vandenberg is painting the background. Individual artists will create work within each of the letters of Ellensburg. The mural project is sponsored by the Ellensburg Downtown Association.
Big weekend for Buskers
The annual Buskers in the Burg takes to streets Saturday in downtown Ellensburg. Buskers will perform throughout downtown from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There also will be an arts parade, a Kids and Pets Parade and other kids activities. The Ellensburg Downtown Association organizes Buskers in the Burg. The top three buskers are announced at the main stage in Unity Park at 1 p.m.
Sarah Spurgeon hosts first exhibit of the school year
The Sarah Spurgeon Gallery’s first exhibit of the fall is Ryan! Feddersen Signal Tracers, opening at 4 p.m. Thursday with an artist talk in the SURC Theater, followed by an opening reception at 5 p.m. at the gallery. Feddersen creates site-specific installations that encourage people to consider their relationships with the environment, technology, society and culture.

Josie’s Misfit Ranch, a volunteer and foster-home-based animal rescue, is holding a meet and greet from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Thursday at Coldwell Banker Central at 508 N. Main St.
Game night on Thursday
The Kittitas County Recovery Community Organization is holding a Family Connection Game Night from 6 to 7 p.m., Thursday at the KCRCO building on Third Avenue. There will be board and card games, giant Jenga and giant Sorry.
Annual state of the university is Friday
Central Washington University President Jim Wohlpart will deliver the annual State of the University Address at 10 a.m., Friday in the Student Union and Recreation Center Ballroom. The address will be live-streamed off of Central’s website.
Sign up by Friday for youth hoop leagues
Friday is the final day to sign up for the Co-ed Kinder and the girls' first through eighth-grade basketball leagues. Practices begin on Oct. 16 and games are played on Saturdays from Oct. 28 through Dec. 10. Registration information is available on the Parks and Recreation page of the city of Ellensburg’s website. Registration also remains open for Tiny Tots soccer clinics for ages 3 to 5, which will run from Oct. 23 through Dec. 7.
Opportunity to vaccinate your dog
The Yakima Humane Society’s Ellensburg Shelter is offering a dog vaccination clinic from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday. Microchips also are available. Information on the clinic and fee schedule is available on the Yakima Humane Society’s Facebook page.
Horse show is Saturday
The Bits and Buckles 4-H Horse Fall Open Show is at 8 a.m., Sunday at Bloom Pavilion on the Kittitas County Fairgrounds. The event judge is Claire Alderman.

High school sports set for tonight
In high school sports action tonight, the Ellensburg High School cross country team travels to a league meet in Grandview at 5 p.m. The EHS soccer team plays at Ephrata at 6 p.m. The Kittitas Secondary School volleyball team plays at Goldendale at 6:30 p.m. The undefeated Cle Elum-Roslyn soccer team hosts White Swan at 6 p.m. The Warriors volleyball team travels to play Granger at 6:30 p.m.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table lunch is beef goulash and peaches. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
