NEWS

City Council approves housing project

The Ellensburg City Council approved the Foster North Preliminary Plat at its Tuesday meeting. Foster North creates 265 residential lots on 80 acres north of Dry Creek Road and east of Reecer Creek Road. The approval was contingent on the developers resolving issues with State Parks and the Bonneville Power Administration.


Council approves Waste Management contract

The City Council approved a five-year extension of the city’s contract with Waste Management. The agreement limits rate increases to once a year, adds November to the weekly yard waste pickup schedule, and creates an annual recycling day. 


Memorial service for Buddy

A memorial service and reception for Buddy, the African Gray parrot who lived at the Ellensburg Pet Center for more than 40 years, will be at 1 p.m., Sept. 29, at Brookside Funeral Home. Buddy, who passed away in late August, would have been 42 in October. She arrived at the Pet Center in 1983.


Chance to support animals

Kittitas County Friends of Animals will have a table at the Cle Elum Safeway on Friday to collect pet food donations and money.


County to consider setting EV fees

The Kittitas County Commissioners will hold a public hearing to consider setting fees for new EV charging stations in the Water Street and Sixth Avenue parking lot at 2 p.m., Sept. 17.


SPORTS

Volleyball registration closes Friday

Registration for the Adult Open Volleyball League closes on Friday. Teams may register and individuals can sign up for the Free Agent List. Teams may play with any combination of female or male players; there is no minimum for either gender. Registration information is on the Parks and Recreation page of the city’s website.


High school football kicks off Friday

High school football season starts Friday night for three of Kittitas County’s teams. Ellensburg hosts Othello at 7 p.m. Kittitas welcomes Granger at 7 p.m. Cle Elum-Roslyn hosts Manson at 7 p.m. Easton’s football team opens on Sept. 14 at Clallam Bay.


CWU teams open season

CWU’s fall sports teams open their seasons on the road this week. The women’s volleyball team plays Metro State in an invitational at Western Washington University on Thursday. The Wildcats face San Francisco State in Bellingham on Friday. The women’s soccer team plays Point Loma in San Diego on Saturday. The football team also is in San Diego, taking on the University of San Diego at 1 p.m., Saturday.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table Lunch is sausage and lentils, garlic bread and pears. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
