For the second time in the past three months, the Kittitas School District is seeking voter approval of a replacement levy to pay for educational programs and operations. The proposal was first on the ballot for the Feb. 10 Special Election, along with a companion levy for technology improvements. And while the tech levy passed by a single vote, the educational and operations levy came up short by 15 votes; 468 to 453.


With few nibbles from applicants interested in Kittitas County’s vacant position of county engineer, commissioners decided this week to reclassify the job in an attempt to find more candidates.

The county has been trying, with limited success, since September to recruit a new county engineer. Recruitment efforts since late 2025 have yielded only two qualified candidates, and one withdrew their application after being invited to interview for the job.

SPORTS


The CWU Softball team split a doubleheader on Sunday losing 15-7 in the first game but winning 6 -2 in the second game. 


The CWU baseball team beat Western Oregon 8-5 against Western Oregon over the weekend.

The forecasted high today in Ellensburg is 69 degrees with a low of 46 degrees. WHAT'S FOR LUNCH AT THE FISH OPEN TABLE?


The FISH Open Table lunch tomorrow is Garlic Chicken Pasta with pears. The senior lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ellensburg Open Table at 204 North Main Street, and noon to 1 p.m. at the Cle Elum Seventh Day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg Open Table.
