Cle Elum Mayor Matthew Lundh is casting doubt on the potential dismissal of the city’s bankruptcy petition in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Washington. For the second time in as many weeks, Lundh has said the city’s legal team is confident the city’s eligibility for bankruptcy won’t be rejected by the judge. Lundh first shared those doubts during a brief update on the city’s bankruptcy at the council’s last meeting.

Kittitas County officials said an independent investigation will be conducted after a whistleblower complaint questioned the hiring of a chief deputy coroner last month. The complaint also raised concerns about Coroner Cori McKean’s leadership of the coroner’s office, as well its “untenable working environment.”

Kittitas County commissioners have appointed two new members to the Veterans Advisory Board. Russel Colmore and Christopher West will join the board after being appointed by commissioners last week.

The wall of windows along the first floor of the courthouse entryway have been decorated with the artwork of local schoolchildren who participated in the “My County, My Country” art contest. The artwork celebrates the 250th anniversary of the United States, and the contest was sponsored by the Kittitas County Board of Commissioners Office for April’s National County Government Month.
