Ballots are due
Primary election ballots must be returned by 8 p.m., today. As of Friday afternoon, 16.7 percent of the ballots had been returned. In addition to local races, there are primaries for multiple state and federal government offices.
Eat with the police Tuesday
The Ellensburg, Cle Elum-Roslyn and Kittitas Police Departments celebrate National Night Out today. The EPD hosts the Eat with the Heat BBQ serving hot dogs and hamburgers from 6 to 8 p.m. at Memorial Park. Several other law enforcement agencies will take part. The Cle Elum-Roslyn Police Department hosts a National Night Out in Cle Elum with food, games and information from 5 to 7 p.m. at City Park. The Kittitas Police Department hosts a National Night Out celebration at 6 p.m. at Gazebo Park. The event features music by Under the Covers.
Downtown projects proposed
Smokey’s BBQ on North Pearl Street seeks approval to install two gazebos and fencing behind the restaurant. The proposal is before the Landmark and Design Commission at its meeting at 5:45 p.m., tonight, in the City Council Chambers. The Commission also will review an Ellensburg Downtown Association proposal to build an informational kiosk on the corner of North Main Street and West Fourth Avenue.
Pfenning Road project completed
The Pfenning Road shared-use pathway from Third Avenue to University Way is complete. The 10-foot wide pathway includes a buffer strip, landscaping, minor road widening, the installation of a curb and gutter, storm drainage improvements and better street lighting. The project received federal funding.
Game Day at the library
The Ellensburg Summer Reading Program features Game Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday, at Hal Holmes Community Center. All ages are welcome. There will be board games, Nintendo Switch, card games and chess. People are encouraged to bring a game to share.
Lyric writing for teens
The Ellensburg Public Library offers a lyric writing workshop for teens from 3 to 4:30 p.m., Thursday. The workshop features professional musicians.
Learn about opening a farmstand
The Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce hosts a farmstand workshop from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, at the chamber’s office of Main Street. The workshop covers the regulations, requirements and steps to open a farmstand in Kittitas County.
Global Heat to perform
Global Heat performs at 6:30 p.m., Thursday at North Alder Street Park as part of the Concerts in the Park series. This concert is sponsored by the Ellensburg Public Library and is the grand finale of its Summer Reading Program. Global Heat is a funk, rock and soul band from Seattle.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is smoked sausage on a bun, roasted potatoes with peppers and onions and orange. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
