Oddfellows host Tree of Love
A Tree of Love celebration will be held at 6 p.m. tonight in the Oddfellows Lodge Ballroom. Tree of Love is a remembrance celebration of those lost over the past year and an opportunity to honor loved ones with family, friends and the community. The Kittitas County Health Network organizes the event.
Good Life discussion is today
The Good Life Community Discussion is at 7 p.m., Tuesday at Hal Holmes Community Center. The forum explores the life and work of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a German theologian who warned against nationalist idolatry. The series is a collaboration between CWU EthicsLab, Ellensburg Library, and Hal Holmes Community Center.
CWU Concert band performs today
The CWU Concert Band performs at 7 p.m., Tuesday, in the McIntyre Music Building. The concert is free and open to the public.
Ellensburg Night Market on Wednesday
The Ellensburg Night Market will be held each Wednesday in December leading up to Christmas. The market will be held at Gard Vintners and Ridge Encore from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. There will be vendors, food trucks, live music, putt-putt golf and children’s crafts. The Ellensburg Downtown Association sponsors the event.
Girls Night Out is Wednesday
The Holiday Girls Night Out is from 5 to 9 p.m., Wednesday in downtown Ellensburg. Check in at Hotel Windrow to pick up a custom tote bag, while supplies last, play bingo as you shop and enter to win prize baskets.
Central concerts feature visiting composer
Central Washington University hosts two concerts by visiting composer Catherine Likhuta this week. The first concert will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the McIntyre Music Building, with Likhuta’s chamber works presented by CWU faculty and students. The concert will conclude with The Valley Whispers, a work inspired by a landscape very similar to Ellensburg, performed by a larger chamber ensemble and directed by CWU Professor Nikolas Caoile. Likhuta’s residency concludes with a concert at 4 p.m., Sunday, in the McIntyre Music Building.
Alley closed during the week
The alley between Third and Fourth avenues and Kittitas and Water street will be closed from Wednesday through the end of the day Friday for monitoring well drilling.
Celtic concert on Thursday
Irish band Everdream performs “A Celtic Christmas” at 7 p.m., Thursday, in McConnell Auditorium. The concert features Celtic and Christmas classics, including "Danny Boy," "Silent Night," unique Irish Christmas songs, movie songs, toe-tapping jigs and reels and their chart-topping version of "O Holy Night." Tickets are $30 for general admission.
Choir by Candlelight on Friday night
The CWU Chamber Choir performs The Silence of Stars at 7 p.m. with pre-concert music at 6:40 p.m., Friday, in the United Methodist Church. The concert explores themes of the season with contemporary choral works, as well as music from a diversity of cultures and spiritual traditions, highlighting themes of sharing, giving, healing, peace, and strengthening community. Guest artist Tim Ribner from Portland is the featured collaborator. Tickets are $20 for general admission.

High school hoops season gets underway
The high school basketball season gets underway this week. The Ellensburg boys’ team hosts Wapato at 7 p.m., today, while the Bulldog girls travel to play Lewis & Clark at 5:30 p.m. Kittitas welcomes Columbia today with the girls' game at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m.
Central volleyball opens tourney play
The CWU volleyball team plays Point Loma at 11 a.m., Thursday in Pomona, California in the first round of the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament. A victory advances the Wildcats to play the winner of the Cal Poly Pomona-Simon Fraser match on Friday.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is chicken alfredo mixed vegetables and pears. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
